Nice little restaurant with a friendly staff and tasty food

It was tough to find a pretty good restaurant in Avignon, as most places seemed to be tourist traps with mediocre food. This small restaurant is a little tough to find, but worth it if you're looking for a warm, cozy environment. The staff is very friendly and caters to English speaking guests... read more

the service was pretty mediocre. at the end we had to go to the desk and just keep asking for the check. they just do not staff enough for the amount of people/tables. my chicken with chorizo and comte was very good though.

Too many tables crammed together. No space to move. Chaotic service. Long waits to order. Confiding over orders. No one in charge of specific tables. High prices for a poor quality experience. Unacceptable waiting time. This restaurant cannot cope with a full restaurant.

a small-ish restaurant, excellent staff, off the beaten path / away from the tourist throngs, food very good with emphasis on meat and cheese. loved it so much we went back again--and enjoyed it just as much the second time

We were wandering Avignon looking for a place for dinner, when the sign above La Vache A Carreaux caught my eye. Apparently known for cheese, La Vache seems to have expanded its menu quite a bit. Regardless, we had some good meat and cheese, great duck and excellent wine. I found the space comfortable, relaxed and welcoming. The waiter warned... More

Walking back to our accomodation we noticed the cute cow sign and after a quick look at the menu ,we decided to try it! We were delighted with the amazing assistance given by the waitress who explained the dishes and suggested the best local wines. The food was fantastic and what a surprise ,it is renown for it's cheese dishes...on... More

Wine and cheese lovers, this is the place! Small and cosy place where reservations are a must! The service is outstanding and they will go the extra mile to explain the micro regions within the different appellations of origin that the offer. There is a lot of cheese on the menu yet not boring at all. Would definitely return in... More

We "discovered" la Vache a carreaux many years ago before it became famous for it's "based on cheese" menu, and were so looking forward to eating there again. We made our reservation from North America knowing we had only one night in Avignon this trip. We were disappointed. Since our visit years ago the proprietor has added meat options to... More

We were lucky to get in. We arrived early and there happened to be a table for three available. The restaurant was recommended by the desk person at our hotel and he promised we'd not be disappointed. We weren't! Food combinations were modified to match our requests. Local, and relatively inexpensive, wine was incredible. The place is rustic and charming.... More
