Delightful meal

On our last night in Avignon, three friends and I had dinner at this delightful restaurant. It had been recommended by other friends but that's no guarantee. However, their judgment was spot-on. The menu, although limited, provides enough choice to please most palates, and the food more than lived... read more

The restaurant, recommended by friends, was a delight. The food had a simplicity and depth in its flavours and style. Superb "fish stew" was rich and intense and the "apricot cake" was perfect for a hot evening. The cheese plate was interesting too with fresh soft cheeses for Summer. The wine list had a good selection of local Rhone wines... More

This place was a real find. Probably our best meal in Provence. Wonderful team in a very small restaurant -- she is working the front of the house, hostess and waitress, while he is cooking in the kitchen. Everything here was terrific. Wonderful soup, appetizers, entrees (the lamb shoulder, which others have mentioned in reviews, is the best lamb I... More

We had been staying in the area for a week and tried a number of local restaurants mostly all good. However this was by far the best of all those we tried. Good service, great food nice wine and with free little tasters to start with which were delicious. Not to be missed. We plan visiting again before the end... More

L'Isle Sonnante is located just north-west of the main square behind the opera house, so it is easy to miss, but well worth finding! It mainly offers set menus at two price ranges, with two or three options at each course, but the selection is balanced and caters for a good range of tastes. We were especially impressed by the... Great service and solid food. The lamb shoulder is the best lamb dish that I have ever had. Mashed fried chickpeas complimented the lamb perfectly. Presentation wise they could add more color to the plate. Fantastic goat and sheep cheese dessert needed a Sauternes. Very satisfied with the restaurant and would eat there again

Really nice little restaurant, friendly staff, great food. Highly recommend :) The lamb was beautiful, Nice veggie options available too. They only open for a few hrs from 730pm, so get in quick.

A small restaurant just off the Place de l'Horloge behind the opera house. We arrived without reservations but were seated at a table for three without problem. Service was excellent and our lack of French was no issue. Entrees and main courses were all quite good. I especially enjoyed the lamb shoulder. We didn't sample the dessert menu. We definitely... We found L'isle sonnante by chance on a day out from the villa we were staying outside of Avignon. It is small, with a lovely atmosphere and offers an affordable lunchtime set menu. As nothing took our fancy we decided on the a la carte menu, which on reflection was really quite expensive for a lunch but that was our... More
