Arriving in Avignon ourselves and two other couples stumbled upon Essential from a recommendation at a wine shop. We had a FANTASTIC MEAL supported by a great staff some with the abilities of English. One of the most memorable meals. Staff recommended a reasonably priced bottle of local wine from a wine list of 100s with some being 300 plus... More

My family and I were very fortunate to have been given a table by Dominique, the wife of Chef Laurent Chouviat, after our hotel front desk forgot to make a reservation for us. Our dining experience was exceptional in every way! There were 2 sets of menus, one at 31 euro and the other at 45 euro. Each dish in... More

Returned to this restaurant after first visiting four years ago. The food was even more fabulous than we remembered and it was lovely to sit in the internal courtyard this time round to enjoy the food, very friendly and helpful service, and the atmosphere. We both commented on how amazing the starters and main courses were and how great it... More

Went for a dinner and was amazed by a quality of food, price and the atmosphere Good points; -Price is accessible despite of being nominated in Michelin (There are two courses ; 42EUR and 31EUR if I remember correctly) -The meal is nice; I would strongly recommend at least one person taking (so that you can share) 42EUR course and... The food was a nice presentation and taste was ok. This was overshadowed by long waits with plates to be picked up after each course we had to ask each time for them to be cleared. We were a party of 6. The owner/hostess never offered any apology. I would never go back or recommend this place.

We were seated in a covered outdoor area on a warm evening. Service was very attentive, and welcoming. Meal started with a delicious amuse bouche of salmon tartare. We shared an appetizer of foie gras, and each had rack of lamb....prepared exactly as requested. Restaurant is very centrally located and easy to find. Would recommend this to anyone searching for... Elegant restaurant (outside more welcoming than inside) and nice staff, it's the food though that you'll still talk about days and weeks later. Sophisticated, subtle, unexpected combination of savours, well presented, meat and fish cooked to perfection... It was a real treat and I would highly recommend a visit if you're ready to spend €31 to €45 for a menu.

My wife and I visited L'Essential for our final holiday dinner in Avignon, we visited last year and were so impressed we thought we would give it another go. Our expectations were high and we were not disappointed; the standard of food was superb, dishes were imaginative, beautifully presented but above all tasted amazing. Avignon has some very fine restaurants... More

We went to this restaurant because of the high ratings on various sites. We showed up without a reservation, and they seated us indoors, not on the terrace. The walls are green, and it has a terrible feel to it, very cold (why didn't they choose red?). The entire time we were seated, the wait staff was running around behind... More

This was the best (and by no means the most expensive) meal we had in a week of dining in Avignon. There seemed to be some minor front of house issues - empty bottles and used glasses piling up on the bar, for example - but the food and service would be very hard to criticise. Our hotel reception desk... More
