A must!

Absolutely superb food, go for the 45 euro set menu! Lovely courtyard, menus available in English. Reasonably priced wine - try the Domaine de Fondreche - Ventoux, Rhone Valley

I agree with all of the positive reviews: attentive, warm, not snooty service; delicious, inventive food; and a very nice atmosphere. Reservations needed, but well worth it. And with the amuse bouche before the Entree and the chocolates brought after dessert, quite a value at either a 35 or 45 Euro prix fixe -- 5 courses total!

We ate in several excellent restaurants in Avignon but this was the pick of the bunch. The food was simple but imaginative, beautifully cooked, and the service and atmosphere were laid back but attentive and precise. It also constituted excellent value for money after the inflated prices we are used to in london. eating here was a delightful experience: we would... This was simply put one of the best meals we had in France in terms of presentation, service, and originality. The food was outstanding. The wine prices are like retail and they carry the best of the Rhône. You have a choice of two fixed menus. They can and willingly accommodate as they did for my niece, changes to the... More

Visited L'Essential with my wife and warmly greeted and looked after by Dominique. Some of the courses particularly the black Hake, the Cod and the trio of Raspberries were just wonderful. On the night we visited we were slightly let down on the service side, perhaps just too busy that evening, but we will be returning on our next visit.

Lovely and lively place with exceptionally charming service. Very good advice on wine. My starter, poached egg with brandade and truffle was delicious. The main (Saint Pierre) was good but less interesting. The duck was a bit lost in a complicated sauce. The bits that came with coffee , chocolate and biscuits, were excellent. In all a lovely experience.

We were recommended this lovely restaurant by the hotel we were staying at and were very glad that we took their advice. We were lucky enough to be eating in the beautiful secluded courtyard and from the minute we were shown to our table and offered the menu and an aperitif knew we were in for a treat. The menu... Professional restaurant run by family. The food was great. My wife considered the best of our trip to South of France. Highly recommended.

This is the second time we have been eating at the L'Essentiel and it is still as enchanting as the first time. Do not leave Avignon without eating there! Reservation is advisable.
