Michelin Star Quality

The food was fantastic. We had the prix fix menu which was great value. The rack of lamb was the best we have eaten at any restaurant. The quality of the food was of Michelin standard. The friendly service was also very good. Strongly recommend a visit when in Avignon but you must book.

Just had the pleasure of eating a truly amazing meal at L'Essential. We had the prix fix menu and could not fault a single thing. Well worth the price of €45 for a Michelin starred restaurant. Booking is essential so as not to be disappointed and our top tip would be to ask for a table on the terrace which... More

The Prix Fix menu was well thought out and the staff matched wines by the glass to suit the food. The staff were very accommodating of our 10 year old son and suggested the chicken dish (which he ate completely). Strongly recommend this restaurant if you are in Avignon. The setting was also beautiful. We were lucky enough to sit... More

This restaurant is 'essential' to any visit to Avignon, and was one of the best in our 16 days in France. The raw salmon 'entree' served on a delightful cream cheesy base was scrumptious. The owner/server was gracious and her young assistants all well trained and wonderfully professional without being unfriendly.

A plus for kitchen, they can get busy, but food fast by European standards. Extras amuse Bouche and a chocolate and a tuille after.

We ate here on the recommendation of the owner of the B and B where we were staying and we weren't disappointed! The welcome and service were excellent and the food is delicious and excellent value for money! It restored our faith in French cuisine after some fairly average meals! We wouldn't hesitate to return when we're next in Avignon!

We meet Stephane and Emmanuel from the Hotel Garlande and the Kramers for dinner on a Friday evening. They seated us on the outside patio, which was full when we entered. They are two fix-prix menus to select from. The food was wonderful. They service is very discreet which highlights the excellent food being served . Would definitely like to... More

L'Essentiel has the little extra touches that you'd expect from a fine dining establishment (tablecloths, good china and stemware, comfortable surroundings, etc.), but without the high prices and pretentious attitude.... Staff were friendly and inviting and worked with my wife's allergy issues with special adjustments to their standard menu. Food was good and decent wine selections.

Authentic French cuisine in Avignon. We had the roasted rack of lamb which was delicious and the baked cod fish with asparagus.
