We went here on a recommendation of a local and we weren't disappointed. The pea soup was delicious as was the salmon entree. We both opted for the chicken and it was well prepared and presented. The tiramisu was mouthwatering and if it was served in anything but a brandy glass I would have licked the dish clean. 100€ for... More

The hostess and waitress were friendly and attentive and the food and wine superb. Half of the patrons were tourists.

A fabulous find! Husband and wife duo, Laurent and Dominique, have created and run a restaurant that delights the senses and soul. The chic restaurant is modernly and comfortably appointed. Dominique and the attentive wait staff excel in service. The menu is so smartly designed - with choice of two prix fix menus or al la carte from either. Chef... More

After a pleasant morning sight-seeing in Avignon, l'Essentiel provided the perfect restorative lunch. The €32 menu was amazingly good value for three flawless courses. Chef Laurent Chauviat clearly has an excellent palate as each course was delicately seasoned and had us licking our lips and uttering gasps of appreciation. It also all looked very pretty but without excessive pretension. Madame... More

It was 30 yrs. ago when we first visited this restaurant and it still evokes such fond memories. We ate outside in the courtyard and each dish we were served was divine. Every time I have a friend traveling to Provence or near Avignon I make sure to recommend this place and everyone has come away with the same fond... More

Even that I find the restaurant completely full, witch make it a little bit noised, the food and the attention was 5* from the beginning to the end. The food was really tasty, well prepared and 5* presentation. In the menu you'll find 3 options, where I choose a beginner of salmon witch was very fresh and delicious and after... More

Booking is essential but totally worthwhile. Madame is delightfully attentive as are the rest of the staff. Food is fantastic with some very nice wines by the glass (at good prices). If you have one night in Avignon this is the place to eat.

Visiting Avignon for just a day, a friend and I felt like a real French lunch-time treat, and my gosh, did we find it here in L'ESSENTIEL. In a back street, unobtrusive, smallish but with a buzzing atmosphere. The food was French at its best. The service, first class. It was not cheap, but money well spent.
