Using my lonely planetguide we lunched today at l'Autruche in Arles. What a delight!I personally love it when the chef has decided what I'm getting from what's available on the day. Rather than a restaurant, this is a kitchen where you pay to have what they're having. You be the judge - here's our experience: - choice of 1 starter, 2 mains and 1 dessert - one waitress, not familiar with the location of items - one other person in corner, occasionally performing small tasks - table cleared only (and incompletely)... Recommended as long as we didn't mind paying a little more, so we expected a little more, obviously. Food turned out to be not as good, quality-wise, as in previous two restos visited. When the patronne seemed to be interested in whether we'd enjoyed our meal, we told her, and found out that there had been a slight problem with... More

We stumbled on this great restaurant just off the main tourist strip. Run by a husband and wife team, it has a simple fixed menu - daube of beef with mashed potato, that changes regularly. They modified the main to suit our 9 year old and she devoured it. The service provided was superb, a bottle of wine was opened... More

L'autruche only has one fixed menu at lunch, but it was great. The menu the day we were there was gizzard salad (don't cringe, it was great), duck and a lemon tart. Wonderful setting in the old city of Arles.

Staying in St. Rémy, we knew were going to spend the day in Arles so we called ahead and reserved a table for lunch. We are so glad we did. L'autruche turned out to be a charming, simply laid out restaurant with a very friendly female staff. Lunch was a set menu which made ordering quite simple. The meal started... More

Best meal so far in France. Down a narrow street away from the the main tourist drag. We went for lunch and there was a set menu, but no problem there all was beautifully presented and we had some exciting new tastes and angles on familiar dishes. The first course took pumpkin soup to a whole new level, that was... More

Came for lunch with my wife, located down a small side street; had the figs/jamon/cheese as starters and the rabbit with ratatouille as our mains. Excellent friendly efficient service, good English spoken. The food was tasty and nicely presented. Together with the food and two glasses of red wine plus a coffee, the bill came to 68 euros. Highly recommended.

This restaurant was one a couple of recommendations by the helpful staff at the hotel Particulier. Ou first choice was one recommended by Conde Nast, but it had closed down. we sat outside and were fed upon by pesky mosquitoes, but the atmosphere sitting outside made up for it. Good food and reasonable prices and most efficient service by the... More

We ate here twice, once for dinner and once for lunch. The service was always great, helpful with the menu, and obviously enjoying serving people. This young couple made both visits enjoyable. They're located a bit off Ave du Republic, but have a chalkboard on the walking street. Make it a place to go.
