Read reviews but still went!

Against the reviews we still went. The service was dreadful , food poor and overpriced. Such a shame that such a place trades on the back of Van Gogh but cannot match his expertise!

we were told there was no drink menu so we ordered two absinths and one red wine. The waiter brought us back two clear alcoholic beverages of unknown origin in small snifter glasses without the standard preparation for absinth (no melted sugar cube, no ice) and a small glass of red wine. When ready to leave, he charged us 11.50... More

Just pass by and see the original location where Vincent Van Gogh painted but, whatever you do, don't seat down. Terrible food and they just want your money for nothing, because they don't have nothing to offer.

Food is OK mostly for Van Gogh buffs. Did enjoy the dalmatian running around—most interesting part of the place.

This restaurant is an insult to the French people. Every time their 'chef' opens a tin to deposit some sweetcorn droppings on the alleged salad Niçoise, Napoleon turns in his grave. It is the most overpriced cynical rip-off joint I've ever had the displeasure to eat in. The waiter limped around and took every request as a personal slight. He... More

Yes, agree with every negative review of this place.....for such an iconic tourist spot the owners have really done this a complete injustice....too bad and very sad.... the cashier , or owner ( not sure) was having her hair done while at the til. .......do not waste you money......wonderful restaurants on surrounding small streets.

I wish I'd read my own trip advisor review before we fell victim to this underwhelming tourist trap! Grotty looking tablecloths and messed up orders and the payela looked like it was a scientific experiment for growing new bacteria! Or maybe the prawns and chicken were trying to come back to life in the sun- yet the waiter we had... More

Yes, this is the subject of Vincent's famous painting, but most of the negative TA reviews are correct. Van Gogh hype, cash only, minimal wine list, blah, blah, blah. BUT, if it is one of the days when they are preparing paella, grab a table before they are all gone. At 16E, the plate of seasoned seafood, chicken, vegetables and... More

The place is really filthy. Floor, sofas and walls are really dirty, the cupboard was falling into pieces. The bread knife was a blade with electrician tape to keep it together. One poor boy (sweater and jeans, should we call him a waiter?) was looking after customers, serving, taking the orders, while two other people were sitting at the bar... More

It's from Van Gogh's famous painting. Nice atmosphere and view around the square. Seems like they had 2-3 people sitting people and only 1 actually serving. My salad was ok, house wine very good. Regretted not sitting down down the street a bit, but it was fine. Would do again for a drink only.
