Consistently good

We have eaten here several times en route from the UK to SW France. We have always been pleased with the food and wines. We once had a memorable gazpacho with basil sorbet which sadly hasn't been on the menu again -please reinstate it. It is always popular which is of course a good sign and... read more

We often eat at this restaurant when in Poitiers, just love it. It has a nice terrace outside by the court and a nice interior with unusual bottle lampshade. The food is very good, often the plat du jour is excellent, so much so that it sells out really quickly because the locals know what good value it is! On... More

They had a wine special offer on - Costieres de Nimes - so we tried it as we like a light red. Absolutely excellent!! The menu was varied, my wife had an oriental chicken dish and I had a home-made burger. Both very good. Total bill, including a beer and a glass of bubbly beforehand was abou 55 Euros, so... More

And excellent service. We happened to be there on what must have been their busiest night of the year - and the staff worked incredibly hard to serve people on time. lovely

We've eaten at La Gazette before, September 2013, and really enjoyed the meal, and the staff were very pleasant indeed. Earlier this month we passed it and decided to have a coffee and sit outside. It was 14:20, 10 minutes until end of service, only 2 of the tables were occupied and we sat ourselves in the corner. A waiter... More

When you live in a country area in France you have to accept that for shopping you drive quite a distance and need to choose your town in advance. Today we chose Poitiers for its good shops and in the knowledge that we could eat at La Gazette once again for lunch. We both ordered Magret de Canard which was... More

First impressions from pavement level where that this was a fairly ordinary pavement cafe/restaurant but when we sat down and the food started to arrive this was very definitely not the case. The internal fit out is lovely and the food gorgeous. I can particularly recommend the taster desert, but the steak and duck were lovely too. The menu may... More

Nice spot at an old Poitier square. Dishes are generous and seem fresh (except for a rather tired-looking chocolate gateau). Unfortunately everything is seasoned with sweet balsamic sauce and rocket salad is springled on top of everything which makes dishes look and taste alike. Waiters are quick, friendly and alert. Overall: not bad but neither memorable.

I dined outside as the weather was fine. I chose the well priced formule du jour and took the waiter's recommendation of wine which was a full bodied red. The mixed grill was mouth watering and the marinated strawberries with ice cream were a fabulous ending to the meal. I found the wait staff to be just attentive enough without... More
