We first ate at Le Boute en Train a little after it opened (about 12 years ago, if memory serves). We ate there fairly regularly for some years and then, gradually, we started to become unfaithful. Other restaurants smiled at us coquettishly and flashed their petticoats and, by and by, we drifted away. But today, for the first time in... More

We found this restaurant whilst out discovering La Rochelle near the market , we arrived & decided to eat outside although we were in a side street it had a atmosphere. The food was well presented, plentiful & excellent. The Tuna steak was superb.

We just had a delightful evening at Le Boute en Train which is centrally located in a charming neighborhood of La Rochelle. We had two very different main courses...magret de canard which was cooked to perfection and a dourade with mustard sauce that was also superb. Each main was served with a variety of fresh vegetables that were cooked perfectly... More

Have been here twice lately once with friends and once with family, the food is good, wine somewhat more than I pay for locally, service good and the staff friendly. Very popular with locals but the artwork has changed since the pictures were taken in tripadvisor. I speak French, so we did not need help with the menu, but I... More

We took as a starter "os à moelle" for my wife, and goat cheese for me, excellent both! Os a moelle is not so easy to find and they took benefit of the market nearby. Then a main dish, fish, which was fresh and tasty. Again a good experience in this restaurant as the atmosphere is relax, choice of wine... More

After a disappointing meal at the harbour the previous evening we selected a district near the markets which I'd read was popular with locals. My husband choseLe Boute en Train (just off rue des Cloutiers), based on the number of diners. My husband decided on a 2 course set and I chose 2 courses a la carte. The man serving... More

A wonderful restaurant that serves surperb food at a fabulous price. The staff are friendly and incredibly patient for folks like myself who do not speak French fluently. The food was just delicious and I would have loved to be dining with others so I could have tasted more than the lone choices I made. I would say that for... More

Saw the good reviews and entered confident of something decent.Cheapst set menu was 20e for 2 courses which for France is pricey. My wife enjoyed a steak (dish of the day).her dessert - some sort of banana and crispy pastry concoction was dreadful. I went à la carte and had a shank of lamb which at 17e was small and... More

We went to Le boute en Train on our last night in la Rochelle and from the moment we stepped in throught the door we knew we had made the right choice. A very friendly welcome, good table and mouth watering aromas made for a good start. We had a three course dinner, fish pate and parma ham and melon... More

In complete contrast to the predatory cynicism of many of the harbour-area haunts catering for the unwary tourist, this restaurant offers lovely food, great wines, friendly and helpful service, all in a warm and authentic atmosphere and at a reasonable price. The restaurants in the market area, about 8 minutes' walk from the port, can't trade on their position, so... More
