Having read other good reviews, we decided to check out this place whilst in La Rochelle for a couple of days. We didn't expect a table to be available, so were very pleased to get the last table. We sat outside which was perfect. It is situated right in the heart of the old town, but just far enough away... More

We went to this restaurant on the basis on the reviews on trip advisor following an slightly disappointing meal in La Rochelle on our first night in town. The food at L'Amaranthe is first rate, fresh and beautifully cooked. It is a small establishment and the waiter was very acomlished at managing service in an attentive and efficient way which... Its only small but everything was marvelous. The waiter explained the menu in English and the wine waiter was very attentiveto the choice of wine and explained where each came from.

Make a reservation, this is a small restaurant, and ask - if weather permits - for an outside table. This is a very good restaurant, price-quality ratio is fantastic! Choice is limitted, but who cares. A lot of wine available per glass. Very friendly staff, the menu is in French, which was not a problem for us, but they explain... More

We had read the reviews and were not expecting to get a table however one became available when we were loitering around the area so we snapped it up. There is only probably room for about 20 people max inside this small and cosy restaurant and only one member of waiting staff and one chef but in saying that both... More

We went on the basis of the TA rating, having booked in advance, This seemed essential as we lost count of the numbers turned away on the evening we were there. We sat on the "terrace" which meant the pavement, but no problem to us - it added to the atmosphere! We started off intending to have a 2 course... More

I contacted L'Amaranthe a couple of months in advance as we were a party of 10 going out for a 20th wedding aniversary and I wanted to make sure we found somewhere nice to eat. They were happy to take our booking. We chose our menus in advance via e-mail to help them with their preparation. On the night, the... More

We were not disappointed in seeking out a restaurant different from the many ordinary tourist trap ones around the port. It is in a quiet road near the wonderful market. In fact we went on 3 separate occasions in May with different family members and friends. We had really positive experiences each time, no matter which day of the week... More
