We found this restaurant by chance and so enjoyed the food that we went back the next night. The first time we sat indoors which was very pleasant and the next night outdoors. I had fish which was very fresh and beautifully cooked. It was very popular but we had not booked and managed to get a table both nights.... More

We stumbled on this place while wandering around Saumur looking for someplace to eat. It was very busy, but they found us a table outside. Seafood is the theme here, and this was about the best seafood we had in France. Highlight was a huge bowl of mussels in butter and wine - a starter, but a meal in itself.... More

I ate here with my family during a holiday in Loire valley on a Saturday night. Unfortunately it was busy and the service slow. In my opinion they were understaffed. The food was was nice but not exceptional. It was good value though. My sea bream was overcooked, the wine was good. It was a nice spot in the centre... More

We had a really good meal in a tremendous restaurant in the centre of Saumur. The restaurant, Le Grand Bleu, appears quite small but the weather was good and they must have had about twenty tables out into the street. The place was absolutely packed and was really buzzing. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and all spoke good... More

We had eaten here a couple of years ago. On a day trip to Saumur for a visit to Ackerman caves ( well worth a visit) we deliberately booked this restaurant. It lived up to our memory and expectation. I had a superb 'sangant' pave de boeuf. My wife had gilt headed bream. Whole fish cooked to perfection. Starter dessert... More

Sunday evenings and Mondays in France can sometimes be a challenge in when looking for a restaurant. Thanks a million for Le Grand Bleu. Advisable to book and your hotel will do this for you. The most attentive staff and the food is first class, fish and seafood being a speciality. So good we returned for our second night in... More

We visited on a Saturday evening. The staff were very busy but a bit chaotic at times ( our bill arrived before we had main course!) but the food was very good. We ate inside, the restaurant is clean and well decorated.

We found this restaurant after looking at others. It was a showery day and we were getting frustrated at not finding one with some reasonable choices for lunch. We, myself, my wife and son chose Le Grand Bleu because their menu was more varied and appealing than the others we researched. We opted for the set menu at 16.90. The... More

We dined as a group of nine with five children and the staff were very accommodating, professional and helpful. We ate on the terrace and there was a lovely relaxed atmosphere. The food was very good although not exceptional. Scores top marks for ambience.

Food OK but my wife's bass was overlooked and the sauce on my scallops wasn't balanced. Service very pushed and as a consequence erratic. Pleasant enough though. Difficult to find somewhere on a Sunday evening.
