Apparently Jean-Louis Trintignant said this was the most beautiful brasserie in the world. Not sure I'd agree, but it is certainly quirky, intriguing, indeed a bit over-the-top with slightly lurid colourful tiles, but definitely not to be missed. I had the €29 set menu. The monkfish carpaccio starter was ok,the rare tuna main course good, as was the chocolate desert.... More

Beautiful is the first word coming to my mind thinking back. The details all around you, the decoration step back in time is great, something I have only ever seen in the food halls of harrods in London. Busy, always busy. Even though the place is full of old style and elegance people do not dress up at all, except... More

This famous restaurant/brasserie is as gorgeous as described. It is crowded, day and night, with efficient waitstaff hustling around (but our gentleman was new - we had to ask for bread). But the food was not great - an appetizer meant to share, had 3 different dishes on it, and all 3 were very mediocre. The main course fish dishes... More

Need a place to meet friends and have a chin-wag over a cup of coffee? Then look no further. This is the archetypal 'fin de siécle' cafe with rich elaborate sumptuous interior. We popped in for a quick coffee and were still there hours later. It just forces you to relax and chat. Coffee, croissants and little toasts were excellent... More

The decoration was quite something and worth the visit. We were quite pleasantly surprised with the decent quality food too. The service was a tad slow. The desserts were distinctively well done.

My expectations for the food were at the level of the amazing decor. Big disappointment. I chose the set diner at 27 euros. The fishes for both the starter (maquereau) and the main were tasteless. The vegetables were totally plain. This was one of the worst diner I had during this stay in Loire Atlantique. I do not recommend this... More

This is a stunning institution that should be on every visitor's must see list. The location in the square is lovely but the interior is fabulous. I had a simple seafood salad and glass of rose for lunch but could not resist a dessert as well. Given the reputation, the price was reasonable.

Six of us chose La Cigale for dinner to celebrate a friend's birthday. We were lucky to get in without a reservation as its a very popular destination. The first thing you notice when the Maitre D leads you to your table is the stunning interior of gilded tile work and frescoed ceilings. The second thing you notice is the... More

We visited the Cigale for a lunch and were blown away by the gorgeous belle époque décor. I think the restaurant itself is worth the visit even without having anything to eat! They had a very reasonable formule de midi, with generous and tasty portions. Very good experience.
