Worth it for a Treat

Lovely surroundings in this historic building, good professional service, great food and wine. We thought the 4 course meal (one course was a selection of delicious Normandy cheeses) with a half bottle of wine at 49 euros was not unreasonable for a place of this quality and ambience. You can pay... read more

You have to remember when you come here that this is formal service but done in a good old fashioned way.the staff are very courtius and it makes the whole experience a delight. (Even when my dog triped the waiter up) the food is as you would expect from a place like this is top notch.and their cheeseboard is the... More

Taken here for a business evening meal. The 'oldest restaurant in France' (1345). We dined on the 1st floor with the wonderful paneling and windows overlooking the square. The food was exceptionally good but as expensive as you can imagine for this environment. Worth it for a treat or if you're not paying!!

Good afternoon Badgerisimus. Thank you for your nice comments and also good sense of humour! You will be glad to learn that you had dinner in our "Joan of Arc" function room overlooking the square and her Church. We hope to see you again, thank you for your notes. kind regards, More

It was a memorable pilgrimage to Rouen to begin with, only made even better with my dining experience at La Couronne. Passed by this lovely little place after walking around Place Vieux Marche, and the maitre d'hotel was kind enough to let me have a peek inside to see the place. It was cozy and intimate, and studded with portraits... More

Good afternoon Xanjo. Thank you very much for your review. It is pleasant to read that you almost had diner at La couronne by chance (after your walk around our lovely place, did you get a chance to see it by day with the market stalls?) and that is was also Audery Hepburns' birthday anniversary! I would have loved to... More

I travelled with my daughter to visit this restaurant so arrived with only the most positive of expectations. We booked at lunchtime with a llovely waiter so we're very exited. On arrival in the evening we were greeted quite formally and seated at a lovely table, the ambience was beautiful and it set the stage for a treat. That is... More

Good afternoon Budakan 1. I am very sorry to read that our locally raised beef (bought from one of the most famous butcher family in Normandy) didnt live up to your expectations. And as you say, it is a huge Rib at just under one kilo (that is also why there is an extra charge of 5€). You shouldn't have... More

My visit to Rouen was very brief, with a tour group on our way from Paris to Caen, just an hour for lunch (which anyone in Frace will tell you is not long enough to really enjoy a French meal). An orientation tour of the town took in the square where Jeanne d'Arc was burned and the Notre Dame de... More

Good afternoon Thewillto. thank you very much for your detailed comments about your "quick" lunch at la Couronne. Having chosen "sole Meunière" you stepped into Julia's shoes i believe, as this is what she had for main course when she visited La Couronne. With have kept the tradition of serving this fish on a copper plate just as it comes... More

Visited restaurant as recommendation from hotel owner. The building is magnificent looking from the outside (apparently oldest restaurant in France) and in very historical spot. Quite quaint inside perhaps a little too covered with photo's of famous visitors. I'm surprised that people have commented on staff being rude - certainly not my experience. Food was very good with oysters to... More

Lunched at La Couronne yesterday, 21st March 2015 with my husband. We didn't arrive with any preconceived ideas about this restaurant, as we hadn't done any checks before happening on it. Aperitifs were very over-priced even for gourmet, French restaurants. A Kir Royale running to 17€ and a G&T, 16€. We chose the 49€ menu and both of us decided... More

Good afternoon Globaltrainer G. Thank you for having taken the time to review your lunch at La Couronne. I am very sad to read that your time with us was all about overcooked ingredients and over-priced drinks. While overcooking an ingredient can happen (even while it shouldn't i apologise for this), It has never been our goal to insult customers... More

Found this place by just roaming the streets and comparing to Trip Advisor. We were early by French standards of 7pm for dinner. We sat up stairs by ourselves for most of dinner. We order the set meal, came with appetizer, entree, and desert. I ordered the special sea bass and got the apple tart for dessert. Both very amazing... More

We travelled a long way (Bodmin to Rouen is quite a way!) specifically to visit La Couronne and were at no point disappointed. I have no idea how a sense of both occasion and comfort was achieved but it somehow was. Sitting in the shadow of the duck press in a building that witnessed the fate of Joan of Arc... More

Good morning Pritchard. Thank you very much for your kind words. You did indeed take a long trip to pay la Couronne a visit! I think you will be pleased to learn that a brand new high-tech museum covering Joan of Arc's life is opening soon (end of march 2015). Thank you very much for the five stars! Kind regards, More
