We went here for New Year's Eve - it was expensive, but worth it for the food, champagne, atmosphere, location & ambience! Highly recommend this historic restaurant - the oldest inn in France, overlooking the historic square where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake! A MUST VISIT IN ROUEN!!

I recently had lunch at La Couronne and had a mixed experience. The food and atmosphere were superb, however, the service was lacking and in the end, just plain rude. I was dining with four other women. Two of us had ordered a bottle of wine. The wine was poured initially and then taken to the wine station. No one... More

Good afternoon pph474. Thank you very much for commenting on your visit at la Couronne. I am very saddened to read that service was lacking that day. I am also surprised by your comments about the owner's attitude, it is so unlike her. I am printing your message to share with our team. Kind regards, More

Heard a lot about the oldest Auberge in France and it didn't disappoint. Experience starts in the entrance hall which had loads of signed photographs of previous celebrity visitors. Pleasant welcome from the Maitre'D and you then step into a room that doesn't look as if it has changed in hundreds of years. We watched the signature dish of pressed... More

I took the family there for a birthday dinner while holiday ini in Rouen. The service was excellent as was the ambience however the food was less than average for an establishment of this standing and reputation.

We had a fantastic lunch in this beautiful restaurant, reputedly the oldest in France, dating back to 1345. There is a special 3 course lunch time only menu for 25 euros. The menu is small with only 2 choices of starter, main course and dessert, but all were delicious and represented excellent value for food of this quality and in... More

We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary here. It couldn't have been better from the minute we walked in to the minute we reluctantly said goodbye. The beautiful old world elegance of this ancient inn is breathtaking. Service and food were impeccable. As far as "slow service" that one reviewer mentioned, this is not a place to just eat dinner. This... More

What an amazing restaurant! Had to eat where Julia Child had her epiphany and decided to become a chef. The restaurant oozes with personality and old world charm. It's been visited by many celebrities including President Eisenhower, Bridgette Bardot, John Wayne, Audrey Hepburn and many others. There were four of us dining choosing their E25 prix fixe menu. We added... More

In her book "My Life in France" Julia Child writes about how her experience at this incredible restaurant changed the course of her life. Although she first ate at La Couronne in 1948, she returned to it throughout her life. I can understand why. Dining here in September was the highlight of our trip to France. The food was sublime,... We went for a much-anticipated dinner at La Couronne “the oldest restaurant in France” (or is it Tour D’Argent?) It is quite picturesque—heavy old timbers and elegant fixtures—and also quite pictured—there is scarcely an inch of wall space in the hallways that does not have a picture of a famous person/movie star/musician who has dined there. We ordered oysters and... More

Good afternoon SailorToo. I am saddened to read that you found your meal too long as you had our most prestigious dish "le canard au sang" . Indeed this is not the best to choose if you want to eat quickly as it involves the traditional presenting of the animal, the cutting, and it is served in two seperate plates.... More
