Poor communications

While the food that we ordered and were served was probably above average, the attitude of the staff was poor. It was difficult to understand the waiter. He also had problems understanding us. He appeared to be new. We do speak French. The owner/senior waiter only appear to collect payment. I would... read more

Typically french, locals use it regularly, service is entertaining and a little confused at times, but what a laugh. The food was french, mussels, of course. We had a herring starter, fillet of sole, he had bouillabaise, a speciality, veal and finished with cheeses. Dont ask for Cheddar, you will only get the three regional - Pont L'Eveque, Camembert and... More

We sat outside overlooking the Vieux Bassin and quickly swapped from the 14€ menu to the 17€ due to the meals we wanted. The prawn starter was great - the crepe over done and bland but the steak in wine sauce was the nicest we've had in France - a pleasant surprise. Dessert was fine as well. Very happy with... More

After reading all those bad evaluations here, I'm honestly quite surprised about the good experience I had at Au Chalutier. First of all, concerning the localization: the restaurant is very well placed and the scenery is very pleasant. Secondly, the place was full (nothing that bad would be so crowded). Concerning the food itself, 50% of satisfaction: my gambas (shrimp)... More

I had a lovely meal here on my day of arrival outside by the harbour. I had for 17 euros 4 oysters set on ice, veal in a beautiful mushroom cream sauce and fromage of various types. However on a second trip in the evening I sat inside the restaurant. The fish soup was excellent but was disappointed in the... More

I went to this restaurant after a seven-hour motorbike ride from UK. I was tired, hungry and thirsty. OK, I speak French so that may have helped, but I found it very nice. I had the EUR14 formule - goat's cheese salad, followed by sole with rice and veg - and could not complain. Beautiful view of the harbour and... More

On a recent trip to France, two friends and I drove five hours to the quaint and beautiful fishing village of Honfleur. It was a very rainy day but we were looking forward to experiencing the town where some say Impressionist art began! The first order of "business" was to enjoy a delicious seafood lunch. We would have much preferred... More

What a shame I read the comments AFTER I had eaten there ( 10 minutes ago... thats how angry I am ) Barely defrosted frozen seafood by the harbour side says it all. Uncaring staff who actively hunt out " les anglais" as easy money. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Visited this 'restaurant' last week on an overnight stay in Honfleur. It looked ok and quite busy from the street entrance and also had quite a few diners on the harbour side. The set menu looked appertizing and reasonably priced so opted for the €14 menu. The waiter who looked as if he was totally out of his depth and... More
