Since 1989 M. and Mme. Coué have been running this restaurant, situated in the heart of the historic old town of Lille just 5 minutes from the two stations and close to the Lion D'Or square. Based in a traditional old Lille house dating back to 1681, the dining room is an intimate space with old brick walls and beautiful beams. The food is generous, inspired and very tasty. Mme Coué manages the kitchen and produces delicious dishes such as beef fillet, stewed oxtail in red wine, foie gras ravioli or crisp skewers of snails and gazpacho. In the dining room, M. Coué is always on hand to assist with the wine list which features a carefully selected choice of regional French wines

Unexpectedly posh

We found this whilst wandering around the old town and didn't know what to expect. We were able to get a table without a booking, but based on the size of it, I'd say we were lucky. The service is good but slow. Go here for a leisurely meal for an occasion rather than a quick bite to eat. The... read more

Very fine dishes combining traditional French cuisine with innovative approaches. Quite distinct from many of the more Flemish establishments surrounding it. Quiet hall and good for conversation, but you need to have a lot of time to enjoy the meal. Only really appropriate for a special occasion.

Our experience with Le Lion Bossu got off to a bad start when I received a shirty email telling me off for having failed to turn up for our reservation- one month before the table was booked! Because of the good reviews I put any doubts about this rather poor service to one side and kept the reservation. When we... More

My friend and I visit Lille before Christmas every year. Not for the rather generic, but pleasant Christmas Market, but for a little break before the hard work that is a family Christmas. Each year, we book a table at Le Lion Bossu. (Hunchbacked Lion. If you go there, you'll get the reference!) Normally we have a dinner, but due... More

The service and quality of the food and wine are excellent, making this a recurrent favourite place. Reasonable prices too and a central location near old Lille.

Our 2nd visit and lived up to our expectations. Sit downstairs for a great atmosphere. Staff are lovely and can't do enough for you. Exceptional food and a lengthy wine list with something for all budgets and occasions. We will definitely be going back.

We stopped into Le Lion Bossu (The Hunchback Lion) for lunch shortly after arriving in Lille. It was late (1:30), but nonetheless we were warmly welcomed, even though we quickly became the last diners in the restaurant. The meal was excellent, and the service was kind and completely unrushed. We made a reservation for dinner that night. Dinner was excellent.... More

We had the lunch menu, with a tomato/aubergine starter covered by rocket salad and the fish special with sweet potato covered with the same. The food was delicious, the service on the slow side but the setting had character whilst still being "cosy". A good place for a relaxed lunch!

Le Lion Bossu is a lovely small restaurant with top quality food at a reasonable price, slightly off the main drag. We enjoyed it so much we went twice in a 3 day visit to Lille.
