I have been three times, once with a boyfriend, once with a good friend and once with my family. On all occasions the food is exemplary. They offer both a French and English menu and there is someone on hand to translate if you need. I would say if you have no commitments to the weekend, to try going on... More

We went to L'Excelsior for its well-known Art Nouveau decor, not the food. We were pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent.

We booked a table and dressed up for this elegant restaurant. The room was stifling hot and no aircon or fans. The weather had been unseasonably warm . The food was edible but the serves were tiny. We had smoked salmon with blinis sorry one blini , although the salmon portion was ok . My duck was only 3 slices... More

Confession time. I am an art nouveau nut. I love the fluid lines, the colours, everything. So I went here to sit and stare at the scenery and prayed that the food was good enough to satisfy the rest of the family. And it was, thank good. I think it depends a lot on your waiter. We had a dour... More

It is an iconic place in Nancy and I was very much looking fiorward to it. Due to chance factors I went to have breakfast here - and decided against dining at the place. Without the white table cloths reserved for luncheon and dinner and with deliveries being carried through the entrance door - there is no back door for... More

We went to enjoy the art nouveau architecture but were even more delighted with how professional, yet friendly the service was. We did not have a reservation for lunch and as the restaurant appeared full we did not expect to get a table. Friendly welcome and staff apologized for putting us opposite a service station - we were delighted as... More

Don't go for dinner, go for breakfast! If you're staying anywhere within walking distance of the Excelsior (e.g. the Best Western Crystal is a good place to stay), take a stroll out and be rewarded by breakfast in some of the best surroundings ever. The breakfasts are good; and good value; and you can watch Nancy life first hand, too.

L'Excelsior benefits from its central location and its reasonable prices considering its high - end reputation & delicious traditionally French cuisine. Weaknesses, however, include the stressful and busy atmosphere, especially starting midday when they serve lunch (plenty of businessmen have lunch here as it is well - located in town). Also, the staff radiate 'stress'. You can literally feel the... More

My wife and I came to this restaurant for one of our "fancy" meals while on vacation. They delivered. Are there fancier places? Probably. Was it pricey? Yes. Did we know that going there? Yes, that's why we planned for it! Would have loved to order one of the large seafood platters but I resisted going all out and just... More

This cafe/restaurant is worth visiting more for the decor than the food, which is fine, though you can find better in Nancy. You can also just have tea, coffee or drinks outside dining hours which is a good way to see the cafe from the inside. The interior is beautiful, Art Nouveau (from the Ecole de Nancy) throughout. A previous... More
