Inventive, yet traditional and authentic cuisine

The new young owner is really committed to explore traditional french mediterranean cuisine, finding ways to make it succulent, surprising and perfectly balanced. The neutral style of the place will dramatically contrast with those and spices and colors in your plate...don't miss this place.

We have found this restaurant through tripadvisor. Food was very good, with fresh from the market ingredients. Medium prices. Not hard to find, reservations are necessary if you want to secure a place for lunch or dinner, especially in high tourist season.

We went here because of the good TA reviews but found nothing special about this restaurant. The room is nice and quiet with tables spaced well apart, but too brightly lit. The service was fine but without personality. We both had the Plateau de la Mer which had a small sole in a nice white sauce, a few slices of... More

This is a great unpretentious restaurant with fantastic food. The chef proprieteur and his wife have been here for over a decade and prepare food bought daily at the market. Today we ate some Bonito ( tuna) which was succulent with great taste, not dry which it can be if cooked too much. This is the second time I have... More

We went to this restaurant yesterday for dinner, easy to get there using the local transportation system. I ordered a combination of fish and my husband ordered scallops. Outstanding, these were served over a light sauce that was just heavenly, vegetable mouse and some heavenly creamed potatoes that tasted like celery. Everything was magnificent; absolutely tres delicieux absolument exquis

If you like rich french cuisine lovingly prepared by the owner this is the place for you, Gourmand starters, Gourmand mains and Gourmand desserts available alongside plain (haha!) old a la carte. We went for the three Gourmands and what a amazing meal we experienced. I cant vouch for the 19 restaurants rated above this place but they must be... More

The best restaurant we found during out week in Montpellier. Family-run, apparently and the service may only be 4-star, but everything else was superb. No fancy printed menu, just carry the blackboard round to each table. Superb brochettes, and the assiette de desserts was gorgeous. It should be noted that the Place Carnot tram stop is several hundred yards from... More

It is hard to tell why going to this place is very pleasant, perhaps the following could explain: - a nice old fashioned room with plenty of space between the guests and no noise - not a lot of choice but first grade cold cut, meat, and fish - good greens with entrees and good vegetables with main courses -... This restaurant is what French cuisine is all about - and served in a nice atmosphere by down to earth people. Off the beaten path but well worth it!

I spent two weeks in Montpellier in a language immersion course, dining out most every night. While I had a lot of good food, the dinner at Le Ban des Gourmands was by far the best. Basically, I'll call it the best restaurant I could afford. :-) Le Ban des Gourmands was recommended in one of my guidebooks, but I... More
