Tucked away

well... tucked away? not necessarily. it's really just one block off the main street people walk en route to Notre Dame. but as is the nature of tourists, we rarely wander off the main drag. au bougnat is a small spot on the corner and very easily missed. the front half is like an old pub and then... read more

Great food from the escargot to the pork chops (special of the day) to the cod with risotto. Don't miss the chocolate cake with caramel ice cream for dessert. On a quiet street only a couple of blocks from Notre Dame - got busy by 8:30.

Was heading somewhere else, and it was closed for evening, happens in Paris when we found U Bougnant. Lucky to get a table. This is an excellent typically French brasserie, with great food. Should have checked Trip Advisor of course. The service was excellent, limited English, and most enjoyable walking around the Ile de Citie afterwards. Enjoyed the buskers outside... More

Our first meal in Paris! We had read about this place on Yelp and read how busy this place can get. Interestingly, when we arrived all the tables were full, however they told us it would just be about a 10 minute wait. Another American family came in after us who were also willing to wait. Then a local business... More

Small and cozy restaurant! Great service throughout the evening. We ordered veal and it was excellent! For dessert we ordered the chocolate cake, and the dessert was delicious as well. We had a great evening and will go back next time we are in Paris.

This little gem of a restaurant truly lived up to our friend's recommendation. Friendly staff, excellent food and wine and very good value for money. The on-line booking was easy to use and I would recommend booking ahead as it would be a shame to miss out! A wonderful place to relax after a busy day sightseeing.

We visited Notre Dame and headed for lunch at Au Bougnat. It is just a few streets over. The area is very quiet. The restaurant is not very big and was filled with local Parisians, perfect for a relaxing lunch. We ordered the daily specials, a nice chicken dish with perfectly roasted vegetables and a fish risotto. Everything was delicious... More

This restaurant is accessed through a small, innocuous looking bar which doesn't give the impression of the excellent food at reasonable price. We ate at this restaurant after visiting Notre Dame. It is a great option to avoid some of the overpriced, distinctly average restaurants in the area.

This was actually the cheapest place we ate at in Paris. We got there earlier than the usual dinner crowd, and were served promptly. We were given a little carrot and green onion mixture to start the meal, which was quite tasty! I got the hake that had orange crust and it was good. A nice change up from the... More

Excellent atmosphere! Superb wine! Even an amuse-bouche! Reasonable! TWELVE escargots...I was in heaven! Hubby had foie de volaille with red onion jelly...very inventive and yummy! My shrimp with risotto was superb! And now comes the BUT! I've always said "Do NOT order steak in Paris!" Argentina, yes! Texas! But NOT FRANCE! I lived here and could hardly wait to get... More

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighborhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
