For tasty traditional game dishes

The small place was packed on a cold night in February. 30 euro dinner of starter, main course, cheese plate and dessert -- a bargain and highly appropriate winter fare. I've been there recently with my wife, celebrating my birthday. Of first impression - it's too crowded. We sat between 2 tables and it felt like we are all together, no privacy. You want to go to the toilet? You need to pull the table b backward. Than we got the menu and it was in French. The waiter spoke... More

We went to this little bistro for a dinner. Nice place, service and food was great. Price on average. 90€ for a dinner x2 with entree main course dessert and wine. Nice place to go to see a typical French bistro where french people go. TO GO

We saved A la Biche au Bois for our last night in Paris because of David Lebovitz's glowing review. Let's be clear about something. David Lebovitz is only human, and even David Lebovitz makes mistakes. When we walked in, I was delighted by the atmosphere. Packed, cozy, buzzing, pure mom-and-pop charm. The waiters were warm and welcoming, and I was... More

I like this place, make no mistake. Small and clubby, lively wait staff, crowded with character who are serious eaters. A five minute walk from Gare de Lyon makes it even more attractive. The only sad part of the meal was the Coq au Vin. This traditional french chicken with vegetable stew in a red wine reduction sauce is what... More

On a recent business trip to Paris I head to A la Biche au Bois based on the review I had seen on David Lebovitz's website. I wanted a good classic meal and wasn't necessarily looking for something too upscale. This meal and restaurant hit the spot, and I am glad that I tried it. I went to this restaurant... More

This restaurant, only 5 minutes walk from the Gare de Lyon, has a traditional French bistro feel with folks packed in as tight as can be. Apart from the friendly atmosphere and capable servers negotiating the tiny space, what is featured here is game (in season). After finishing off two huge portions of foie gras, we moved on to the... We thought the food was fine but not better than many other similar brasseries. We went for the game. My wife had the duck and deer terrines and I had the country terrine. Both were fine. Then I had the hare and she had the Scottish grouse. Both were ok but but we have had better. So I wouldn't avoid... More

Every conceivable game dish, exquisitely cooked, generous portions and friendly service. Their own tasty game pate, clearly not bought in. Deer, venison, even grouse from Scotland tender and succulent. Unbeatable, Generous cheese included on the menu as well as super desserts - chocolate mousse au Grand Marnier completed a perfect meal.
