Go for the experience, not for the food

Refuge des Fondues is a small restaurant in Montmartre that definitely caters to tourists. I took some visitors there a few weeks ago because they were eager to go to the "baby bottle place". The food itself is not very good--stale bread, clumpy cheese, meat, and a variety of sauces. The fun part... read more

I came here with some friends on a recommendation from my brother, who had come here with his college's Eurotour several years ago. We had no clue what to expect, and we had a wonderful time. The value for the price is outstanding. For $21 euros per person, you get an apertif, a little meat and cheese platter, a choice... More

If you are in Paris and want a fun night of eating and sipping (literally) wine, then this is the place. You will be jammed in with strangers, people will climb on tables, and it will be noisy. But you will leave with a huge smile on your face and a memory that will last a lifetime. A must visit... More

Prepare to be seated next to a complete stranger. All the tables are lined up side by side along the two walls of the restaurant. So in order to sit at the wall side of the table one person has to climb over it. The fixed menu starts you out with a kir and a little meat and cheese platter.... More

What fun! As everyone has said it's small, tight up to strangers and hot but who cares it's a great experience. Note that the cheese fondue is only for two; you can't get it for one. It comes with only bread. Go with a big appetite and order both the meat and cheese for two of you and pay the... More

Fondues restaurant' choice of cheese, chocolate or meats. Crowded and noisy, Sitting along two long tables, making all the audience to be immediate friends. Recommended to arrive at 7 p.m - just for the opening to get good places.

What a refreshing find, somewhere completely unpretentious, serving a tasty (albeit very limited) menu in a buzzy ...unique ? environment where you drink wine out of babies bottles and are encouraged to write on the walls. If you're looking for sophistication give it a wide berth, for a fun night out give it a go !

It was definitely a dining experience to remember. Drinking wine out of baby bottles, climbing over tables.A really great place to meet fellow travellers. Highly recommend.

We had a great time in Le Refuge des Fondues. We took the meat Fondues. My kids are still speak about that place, as one of the best place we had a dinner in You need to come early, since the line in front the place is long. The restaurant open for dinner at 19:00. And try to book in... More

Was here last night and have to say it was brilliant. The decor was unusual but added to the experience. Got the cheese fondue... Delicious and white wine wine out of a baby bottle... Well odd but would do it again.

Staying in Montmartre

Neighborhood Profile
Montmartre
Montmartre is a bustling mix of cultures, colors, and styles which changes from one street to another. Ride the funicular (or, for a real workout, climb the steps) to the sublime Sacré-Coeur (Basilica of the Sacred Heart) with its inspiring view of the city. The church is surrounded by provincial streets and piano bars where tourists, artists, and street entertainers thrive. At the foot of the hill, Boulevard de Clichy features shops not intended for young audiences, while residences are scattered to the north and east. The diverse population includes a large part from the Arab-speaking world, Africa, and Turkey. It’s a corner of Paris full of life and dynamism with charms that can’t be found anywhere else.
