Great French Meal

I was looking for duck confit and found a very good version here. The potato side, however, was a little too greasy and limp. My appetizer was the foie gras and was excellent. Hubby had escargot - very good and had the same opinion of the duck confit as I. Our dessert of an apple tart was not... read more

Food is not great, prices are expensive but this restaurant has some charme. It is traditional, small, warm. It´s part of the city....

Doesn't look much from the outside, but it's obviously where the locals go. Beautiful wine selection, delicious food, especially the home-made profiteroles. Attentive, but not obsequious, service; came away having enjoyed a delightful gastronomic experience - full, but not "stuffed"!

Also enjoyed the beef Bourgignon and Pate- Felt the waiter was patronising as I attempted to ask for another bottle of wine in French to be told to speak in English as it was better than my French. Most French encourage you to speak in their language. Also disappointed to have the table cleared and desserts brought whilst I was... More

We looked up this restaurant specifically to find great beef bourguignon. This was rated by some as the second best in Paris, but I can't imagine there is anything better. The restaurant claims to have been around since 1872, and that must be how they perfected the meal. We added a salad with Lyon sausage and a creme brûlée to... More

Our last day in Paris was cloudy and cool -- perfect for cassoulet. We asked our hotel desk person for help, and he found us the perfect spot. The nearby Perraudin doesn't have cassoulet every day, but it did that Wednesday. What luck! Perraudin is a small place in the Latin Quarter that specializes in traditional French cuisine, and their... More

Delightful restaurant - typical bistrot with the checkered table cloths and cosy atmosphere but tables sensibly spaced so that you don't feel you are dining at your neighbours' table. We only ate a main course each and it was copious, so a starter (for us) would have been too much. My companion had a simple duck breast in a madeira... More

We sought this place out as recommended by friends who once lived in Paris. It is a proper restaurant, rather than a brasserie or bistro, offering "cuisine bourgeoise" in a traditional interior. Nonetheless its lunch menu at under €20 is good value: e.g. herring based salad starter, gigot of lamb, chocolate mouse all delicious. Location is very near the Panthéon... More

Walked in by chance, so glad we did! Exquisite food; we had duck, lamb, chicken and calves head, accompaniments perfect. Couldn't fit dessert in - portions of main meal more than enough. Coffee smooth and rich. Service excellent, lovely atmosphere. Next time you're in the Latin Quarter of Paris, drop in and enjoy.

The food was fabulous as well as the service, We had a menu consisting of starter (french vegetable soup), main course (bourbon beef) and dessert (chocolate mousse) and all of them were delicious. The food came with bread and water, and the portions were more than sufficient. The staff was kind and I really appretiated that twe do not need... More

Staying in Quartier Latin

Neighborhood Profile
Quartier Latin
The Latin Quarter bursts with intellectual life, architectural splendor and ongoing merriment. The small streets are filled with classical buildings, student bars and lively eateries while the squares are dominated by historic monuments. The area is defined by the 800-year-old Sorbonne University, where Latin once prevailed, and is famous for the Pantheon which celebrates the great men and women of France. During the day students rush from classes to the library and intellectuals people watch from the terraced cafés. As night time falls the surrounding establishments fill up and the merriment really begins. The liveliest parts are around Rue Mouffetard, lined with crêperies and international street food eateries, and Place de la Contrescarpe characterised by terraced brasseries, this neighborhood provides real nourishment for the mind, belly, and soul.
