Great food and service

This tiny bistro is everything you would want from a Parisian restaurant. Great food and service. A reservation is necessary as there are only about 12 tables. Charles the chef is in the kitchen by himself and you can watch him prepare the food from a set menu of 3, 4, or 5 courses. The prices are... read more

First of all, I cannot say enough good things about this small bistro (20+ covers). The greeting at the door sets the stage for some outstanding Service. One person is the complete “service staff” and she is very personal, professional, and efficient. She does everything outside the kitchen, including helping you feel at home. The quality of the food is... More

Tiny place (Timbre means postage stamp), and you're almost shoulder to shoulder with other diners. This means that dinner chat is going to be overheard by your neighbors. That's OK - but on the night we were there, some fellow-Americans at adjacent tables were talking very loudly and, worse, were swearing. No wonder the French diners were looking askance at... More

Le Timbre is a really great little restaurant that does set menus. We had a 4-course dinner and all courses were well prepared, beautifully presented and tasty. Really good value for money. Only tiny downside is that the place is tiny so you sit very close to the other people in the restaurant - but that's the case many Parisian... More

A long title for a miniscule restaurant. First, a few caveats. Don't even think of coming here if you are claustrophobic: you will be yearning for the relative comfort of economy class airline seats. As a corollary, if you have a back problem, a knee or hip problem, or don't want to leave with one, keep in mind the seats... More

We were a party of three and enjoyed very much our Friday dinner at Le Timbre. Menu is fix, but the Chef prepared for me an upgraded fish main course since I don't eat other meat. One cook and one lady serving us all with careful attention. She gave us good advice regarding wine. My only negative comment is that... More

I'd visited Le Timbre in 2007, under a previous ownership/chef as this tiny restaurant has only recently been run by the current very highly rated chef. My earlier disappointment was entirely reversed and this was perhaps the most fun and best food we have had during our current stay in Paris, including Michelin starred venues. Tiny, (22 persons, 11 2-tops... More

We tried to get into this tiny place a couple of times, but it was always full. I skipped out of class early at the nearby Alliance Francaise just so we could be among the first to be seated. At shortly before noon, there was only one patron; by 1:00, they had turned away 6 or 7 groups of hopefuls.... More

We made a booking online and went there after a walk in the park nearby. Originally, I wish to try some of their famous dishes but they only offer one set menu at lunch time for everyone, but that's fine because the dishes are carefully and nicely designed. I had a cod fish plate with asparagus as starter, the fish... More

We stayed in Rue Saint Beuve and among all the nice restaurants that this street offers we were attracted to this one; probably because of the friendly scene through the window: a tiny informal place, tastefully decorated, with a tempting fixed courses menu, only one person that takes care of all guests (the timbre-sized place can’t hold more), only one... Staying in Saint-Germain-des-Pres

Neighborhood Profile
Saint-Germain-des-Pres
In Saint-Germain-des-Prés, life is effortlessly chic and all things are beautiful. The main boulevard is dotted with famed terraced cafés, haut-couture shops, ivy-covered railings and fine-dining restaurants. Antique dealers and art galleries surround the fine art school and small museums hide in unassuming squares. The neighborhood’s namesake church is the oldest in Paris and is the backdrop for talented musicians every weekend. The Luxembourg Gardens house the national senate, splendid lawns and flourishing flower beds. Famous faces and bourgeois Parisians frequent Saint Germain accompanied by the students of Rue Saint Guillaume and Rue des Saints-Pères. This is a neighborhood where afternoon people-watching from a café or playing cards in a brasserie are a key part of the daily fabric.
