Slow service, hearty food

While the people were friendly, the service and food preparation time were very slow, and it was difficult to catch anyone's attention to ask them about it. This place is a wee bit scruffy but the wine is nice and the food is hearty, to say the least, and relatively inexpensive. Fine for lunch... read more

We called a coople of hours before 21 in the evening on a friday, to make reservations. I am glad we didnt just drop in, because by the time it was 21.30, the place was packed to the brim. We were greeted by a genuin and enthustiastic waiter. He suggested us to a table by the window, but I kindly... More

This was our fourth visit to Le Tambour and we absolutely love this little gem of a restaurant in the 2nd Arrondissement. Charming both outside and in this is not a restaurant for everyone. While it is typically French, I would not say this is what your average tourists pictures in their mind when they think of a Parisian restaurant.... More

My wife and I visited this restaurant because it was recommended by friends. The food was average, but in generous portions. The place had however a very friendly staff and a nice atmosphere, which made the visit worth wile, but since the main reason to go to a restaurant is the food, I have rated it average.

We ate here a couple times during our stay as it was a solid late night option for drinks and steaks in a lively atmosphere, cramped inside with mostly locals. The service here we found to be of a very good standard. We couldn't advise more that you should listen to their recommendations as some of their offerings on their... More

Seven years after my last visit, very little has changed. The food is uncomplicated but well-prepared and tasty and in generous portions. The waiting staff are attentive, but not overly so - they strike the right balance. Will surely be back - although I've no idea when.

I bumped into Robert, the owner of a closed Fondue restaurant that I loved and he told me he was at Le Tambour. We decided to check it out. My goat cheese salad was excellent. The steaks were good and the onion soup was divine. The wine prices are reasonable as well. The décor is fun and the location great.... More

This place was recommended by the manager of the apartment I rented in Paris with my girlfriend: there was a nice selection of food, I had a steak with pepper sauce and my girlfriend had the entrecote with onion sauce, both really good and tender. Servings were big, and sides were included. Including a couple of drinks, we ended up... More

Dined here on a Monday evening. Though most high recommended for its late night dining, our "prime time" meal was fabulous. Arrived about 8pm, and the cafe tables outside were all filled with locals enjoying an aperitif. Appetizers chosen were the escargots and a homemade terrine. Both excellent, though the waiter's suggestion to try a little Dijon mustard with the... More

I visited this place on a recommendation from the woman we rented an apartment from. The food was just scrumptious. Great flavors and savoury sauces. The restaurant had outdoor seating available - though we opted for an inside option as there was a lot of smokers outside (which is common in Paris). The interior is metro-inspired and it was very... Neighborhood Profile
Opera / Bourse
The neighborhood around Opéra and Bourse is a belle époque paradise of grand boulevards, refined arcades, and mass-market art-nouveau entertainment. Here, modern day workers continue to take advantage of the legacy that nobility and finance left in the 19th century. Brightly-lit brasseries, theaters, and cinemas sit side by side with French bistros predominating in one area and Japanese restaurants in another. The area is most famous for the Palais Garnier opera house and glamorous department stores.
