Steak and Fries: The French Way

I was urging some steak in Paris and went to Le Relais de L'Entrecote for the french experience after hearing nice things about it. I got there around 7 PM and did not have to wait in line. Don't understand the enticement around this chain of restaurants in Paris -- very commercial, no charm, turn the tables fast, jam the people in....salad was marginal, steak flavorful but not outstanding if you've ever experienced really good beef and the frites were reminiscence of McDonalds. Recommend finding numerous other Paris restaurants for a better experience.

It's hard to have a bad meal in Paris but we managed to do so here. Went out of our way to have their famous steak and fries but we left starving as neither the steak nor the fries were tasty enough to eat. Don't understand the great reviews- it was biggest disappointment in Paris!

This is a great place if steak is what you want! Steak and pommes frittes is what's for dinner here, and you won't leave unsatisfied. There is no menu, they simply ask how you want it cooked, and if you want house wine or Bordeaux! Our steaks were perfectly cooked at medium rare and the fries crispy and wonderful. The... More

This is crowded for good reason. It's fantastic and worth the wait. We got lucky last week and there was no line when we went, our hotel ever tried to talk us out of it (the horror!) and we just walked over. It was everything we hoped for, great salad to start, fantastic steak (mine medium and my wife was... More

If you do one thing in Paris, go here! I went as a recommendation from someone who had lived in Paris for a few years. It did not disappoint. In fact, this is the best meal I've ever had in a restaurant. It's simple but the sauce makes it magical. I am addicted to it and am considering going to... More

Ate at this place due to the long line, figuring why people would wait this long. The steak and frites was okay but I did not find it amazing.

We came here when all of the other restaurants were full, and we were seated immediately. In a couple of minutes, we all had the same food: steak with a tasty sauce and fries. I then learned that they serve only this and that was so cool. Then we started eating and the food was so good. Actually it was... More

Rocked up at around 9pm and only had to wait ~15 minutes before I was let in. Once sat down, there is only one thing on the menu (which was verbal and non-existant) - steak and frites. So naturally the waiters and waitresses simply ask "how would you like your steak, rare, medium or well done?". Baguettes are provided as... More

Relais de l'Entrecote is an institution. The steak frites are among the best around. The pesto sauce on the steak is stunning. I would love to get my hands on the recipe. The only choices in the restaurant are the type wine (or drink) and how you want the steak done. Also one can choose from among an amazing selection... More

Neighborhood Profile
Saint-Germain-des-Pres
In Saint-Germain-des-Prés, life is effortlessly chic and all things are beautiful. The main boulevard is dotted with famed terraced cafés, haut-couture shops, ivy-covered railings and fine-dining restaurants. Antique dealers and art galleries surround the fine art school and small museums hide in unassuming squares. The neighborhood’s namesake church is the oldest in Paris and is the backdrop for talented musicians every weekend. The Luxembourg Gardens house the national senate, splendid lawns and flourishing flower beds. Famous faces and bourgeois Parisians frequent Saint Germain accompanied by the students of Rue Saint Guillaume and Rue des Saints-Pères. This is a neighborhood where afternoon people-watching from a café or playing cards in a brasserie are a key part of the daily fabric.
