Elegant food on the Ile St Louis

L'Orangerie serves classically French food with a twist. I had the Dorade (sea bream) in a tarragon cream sauce surrounded by fresh veggies cooked to perfection. The dessert of the day was a roasted pear smothered in the best chocolate sauce ever. Helpful staff and a modern interior set in a 17th... read more

Was excited as staying right nearby after reading reviews ended up being disappointed .Arrived without reservation and was graciously seated and served but food was a real disappointment .Eggplant gratin arrived w Parmesan sauce that was broken (microwave trauma?) and my wife's steak which was ordered medium rare (a point) arrived very over done .Ordinarily I'd send it back but... We had New Year dinner here. Positives: nice location, good atmosphere (there was a singer) Negatives: food and service. Both were poor sadly. It's probably hard to get staff at new year. One waitress tried to pour Champagne without opening first, then poured the wine into champagne glasses! The food was average, which is fine, but priced as Michelin star... More

The restaurant was surprisingly empty at 14:00 but the food is quite good and absent of tourists - given its proximity to Notre Dame. Attentive waiter and satisfying food that was perfectly fine if not exceptional.

I'll be honest ... even though I speak French it's a bit intimidating to go to an authentic French restaurant because the environment can be a bit stuffy and there are so many menu items that don't translate easily it can be hard to know what you are ordering. We rented an apartment on ile St. Louis and ate at... More

I had dinner here in November and the service was very good, the food less so, but still acceptable. Very nice décor. if I was staying on Isle Saint Louis I think I would prefer to have dinner at the St Regis.

We had our anniversary dinner here, and although the staff were not aware that it was a special evening for us, one would have thought they did. Service was excellent, and especially warm. Everything we ate, from entree, to main course, and through dessert was delightful. The cost was reasonable for Paris. We just happened upon this restaurant and are... More

On our recent trip to Paris we decided to have lunch on l'Ile St. Louis as part of a day of touring the area. Knowing that some of the restaurants can be very expensive, I did spend time looking at the suggestions made online. L'Orangerie seemed perfect. Small, far from the tourist center, and receiving good reviews we decided on... More

We dined at this restaurant our last night in Paris. The food, wait staff, and interiors were very nice. Tables are a bit close and it did seem that the patrons were mostly tourists. Nonetheless, it was a pleasant evening.

I booked this place near our Paris rental apartment at the last minute on The Fork. We arrived at 12:25 for our 12:30 reservation and were given our choice of seats by the restaurant manager/server. She and the chef were running the place. When we left an hour later there were a total of three tables occupied. We ordered a... More

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighborhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
