Traditional Paris at its best

Bright lights, a bit tattered around the edges but so much fun! No English menu but the waiter was kind and showed remarkable patience. Wine list for every pocket book. Souffle was great. Wonderful experience for last dinner in Paris.

This was our first meal in Paris and it was simply charming. We had a reservations and requested to seat in the first section. Our waiter knew little English and I know a little French. We were then given a waiter who spoke better English but it was all good. After a complimentary champagne, we ordered a lovely bottle of... More

Good friends recommended this bistro following their visit here in the summer of 2014. We were anxious to try it, but alas, were disappointed overall. We were given the free glass of wine (delayed a bit as our amuse bouche of minced mackeral and toasts (quite good) had arrived earlier) and thought it could be a very good meal. We... More

This place seems lost in time. I love its classic old French bistro look. The boeuf bourguignon and confit de canard (crisped duck leg) are great here and I always have trouble deciding between the two. This time the duck won, and it was as good as ever -- yummy fried potatoes, tender duck with perfectly crispy skin and fresh... More

I am going to Jospephine two to three times a year. So far I never have been disappointed by what is one of the best genuine classical French cuisine in Paris. The design is already introducing you into the old fashioned restaurant style where you are feeling less harassed by waiters than in the Star style places. They bring you... More

For years I've been looking forward to a meal at Dumonet. Living near it now in Paris, we finally managed to get there. With unfairly high expectations and a number of years looking forward to eating here, it failed in nearly all ways. I am perhaps a more accomplished cook and foodie myself, so standards are high, perhaps too high.... More

I had been really looking forward to coming here as it was renowned for its french classics and i felt like a dose of good old french cooking. The place itself is is like a long room with bar at the entrance. the staff were friendly and helpful but one of the first things I noticed was the lack of... More

We had an ok dinner, not great food as we were led to believe by reviews. The salad was bland and the rest of the meal just OK. BUT, what was not OK, was the attitude of the staff. not only to us, but to every American that walked in. We were seated by the window and saw everything. We... More

It's the bistro atmosphere of your dreams: lace curtains at the window, banquettes, white cloths on the tables, old-style light fixtures, pressed tin ceiling, waiters with black ties and long white aprons. Once seated, you're offered a complimentary glass of white wine and soon thereafter a little amuse bouche of soup. Good bread and butter on the table. We'd heard... More

As always, Dumonet never lets you down. We were 4 for dinner on a cold rainy night. Staying in Saint-Germain-des-Pres

Neighborhood Profile
Saint-Germain-des-Pres
In Saint-Germain-des-Prés, life is effortlessly chic and all things are beautiful. The main boulevard is dotted with famed terraced cafés, haut-couture shops, ivy-covered railings and fine-dining restaurants. Antique dealers and art galleries surround the fine art school and small museums hide in unassuming squares. The neighborhood’s namesake church is the oldest in Paris and is the backdrop for talented musicians every weekend. The Luxembourg Gardens house the national senate, splendid lawns and flourishing flower beds. Famous faces and bourgeois Parisians frequent Saint Germain accompanied by the students of Rue Saint Guillaume and Rue des Saints-Pères. This is a neighborhood where afternoon people-watching from a café or playing cards in a brasserie are a key part of the daily fabric.
