Genuinely French, wines too expensive

I am going to Jospephine two to three times a year. So far I never have been disappointed by what is one of the best genuine classical French cuisine in Paris. For years I've been looking forward to a meal at Dumonet. Living near it now in Paris, we finally managed to get there. With unfairly high expectations and a number of years looking forward to eating here, it failed in nearly all ways. I am perhaps a more accomplished cook and foodie myself, so standards are high, perhaps too high.... More

I had been really looking forward to coming here as it was renowned for its french classics and i felt like a dose of good old french cooking. The place itself is is like a long room with bar at the entrance. the staff were friendly and helpful but one of the first things I noticed was the lack of... More

We had an ok dinner, not great food as we were led to believe by reviews. The salad was bland and the rest of the meal just OK. BUT, what was not OK, was the attitude of the staff. not only to us, but to every American that walked in. We were seated by the window and saw everything. We... More

It's the bistro atmosphere of your dreams: lace curtains at the window, banquettes, white cloths on the tables, old-style light fixtures, pressed tin ceiling, waiters with black ties and long white aprons. Once seated, you're offered a complimentary glass of white wine and soon thereafter a little amuse bouche of soup. Good bread and butter on the table. We'd heard... More

As always, Dumonet never lets you down. We were 4 for dinner on a cold rainy night. We started with the complimentry glass of white wine and had a delicious dinner of artichoke salad warm, smoked salmon....divine! Fabulous creme fraiche and perfect nut bread, cod, and duck. For dessert the poires Helene...something new was fabulous . Fresh poached sliced pears,... More

My husband and I love the dining experiences we've had at Chez Dumonet. We are already booking an evening meal for our visit in November. This is a must-go.

Waiters were great....very nice. Loved the classic food. Small, old restaurant.....we highly recommend. All food was good. We made reservation in advance.....they open later and probably 8pm is best time. Will be back. Try the famous beef Bourgogne.

We were looking forward to eating here for such a long time after reading about it online. We booked well in advance, which was good advice as it gets very busy. Service was surprisingly friendly and humorous for Paris! We had great fun with one of the waiters and were given complimentary white wine upon arrival. But onto the most... More

Neighborhood Profile
Saint-Germain-des-Pres
In Saint-Germain-des-Prés, life is effortlessly chic and all things are beautiful. The main boulevard is dotted with famed terraced cafés, haut-couture shops, ivy-covered railings and fine-dining restaurants. Antique dealers and art galleries surround the fine art school and small museums hide in unassuming squares. The neighborhood’s namesake church is the oldest in Paris and is the backdrop for talented musicians every weekend. The Luxembourg Gardens house the national senate, splendid lawns and flourishing flower beds. Famous faces and bourgeois Parisians frequent Saint Germain accompanied by the students of Rue Saint Guillaume and Rue des Saints-Pères. This is a neighborhood where afternoon people-watching from a café or playing cards in a brasserie are a key part of the daily fabric.
