All the dishes absolutely wonderful, I would recommend "Boeuf Bourguignon'' when u taste it you can find the meat melt in the mouth but the portion a bit big for girls, nic pairing with wine. We returned because last year the boeuf bouruignon was good. I will say the salmon starter is excellent and the foie gras is fine. However, the mains are only passable. I had the half portion of the boeuf bouruignon and that was enough for my husband and I to eat. It was overcooked with no apology and looked burned. He... More

We had a late dinner here after hearing about this place from a friend. The service is very attentive and genuine. We were given a complimentary glass of white wine. We shared a foie gras, and for main a boeuf bourguignon. For dessert we had a Mont Blanc. It seemed like some of the other guests in this place were... More

A very old restaurant with a classic atmosphere. Very small tables, quite uncomfortable. Food was not the best, but it was okay. We had the duck and the boeuf bourgignon. Staff was welcoming and polite, but not very informative.

They serve a classic boeuf bourguigone, a tasty rather large pot of herrings, a marvelous house made paté. Chez Dumonet has maintained their 1940's appearance. Reservations required. Ask to be seated in the front room but even the back room isn't bad.

Terrible sloppy and condescending service, average ( and this is kind!) food and high prices: Josephine used to be good but they are now to be avoided! I am a native French speaker so it has nothing to with language, it is arrogance because of ratings. Forget Josephine there are many restaurants in Paris with far better service and food

Like L'Ami Louis, I've had some very good food here. But also like L'Ami Louis, totally enjoyable experiences are few and far between. Recalling the large size of the portions, I ordered a "demi portion" of the foie gras. It was delicious, but quite small, so I asked the waiter for the other half (" l'autre demi") which he promptly... More

Perhaps, we visited on an evening when the staff was new as the service and food left much to be desired. We did receive a complimentary glass of wine though for some it was sparkling wine and for others non-sparkling. The gazpacho amuse-bouche was the tastiest part of the meal but not everyone's bowl contained the garnish of croutons and... More

Food is very good classic bistro fare. We started with a complimentary gougere and glass of champagne. Great foie gras and herring with potatoes for appetizers. Confit de canard was also quite good. Nice selection of wines across all price points. Efficient service. We reserved weeks in advance (they only take reservations by phone). We speak French with an American... More

Hard to understand the 5 star reviews. We had made reservations two weeks earlier, but were escorted to the infamous (see other reviews) table next to the bathroom. I refused to sit there and was given a table by the front door. The wine list is, indeed, appalling, as a previous reviewer reported. I paid 99 euros for a mediocre... More

Staying in Saint-Germain-des-Pres

Neighborhood Profile
Saint-Germain-des-Pres
In Saint-Germain-des-Prés, life is effortlessly chic and all things are beautiful. The main boulevard is dotted with famed terraced cafés, haut-couture shops, ivy-covered railings and fine-dining restaurants. Antique dealers and art galleries surround the fine art school and small museums hide in unassuming squares. The neighborhood’s namesake church is the oldest in Paris and is the backdrop for talented musicians every weekend. The Luxembourg Gardens house the national senate, splendid lawns and flourishing flower beds. Famous faces and bourgeois Parisians frequent Saint Germain accompanied by the students of Rue Saint Guillaume and Rue des Saints-Pères. This is a neighborhood where afternoon people-watching from a café or playing cards in a brasserie are a key part of the daily fabric.
