A little gem in Paris

Had dinner here while in Paris with some colleagues and it was a very excellent meal;.. The restaurant is tiny spot with classic French menu items and a great wine list. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting to eat out in Paris with normal neighborhood folks.

Locals always know best and most French fine-diners would place Chez Marcel in their top ten. So would I. This place is amazing. The ambiance is welcoming and 'challeureuse' whilst the decor ensures it remains intimate and romantic. The food is great. I would recommend the seabass as a main. Portions are generous and very reasonably priced, with a big... More

We stumbled into Chez Marcel by divine luck. In Paris for just 24 hours of business, I was lucky enough to enjoy one of the best meals of my life. We had a very short period to eat and head to our next appointment, but the maitre'd got us quickly seated and delivered us four dishes that could be enjoyed... More

My husband and I just left Chez Marcel, after receiving high recommendations from our concierge and TripAdvisor reviews. Our waitress and the other staff members were lovely. They were the best part of the meal. The escargots were fine, but Moustache's were 100 times better. My well-done steak was the rawest piece of meat I've ever received (a little pink... More

Chez Marcel offered us the most uniquely French experience we had during our entire two week visit, and absolutely the best meal we had as well. The restaurant is small, with tables very close together. The owner actually had to pull out the table for me to get into the booth. However, the experience was absolutely charming. I read another... If you are a true foodie, this place has it all. Great host, fantastic atmosphere, attentive hard working staff who are actually enjoying what they do ...... serving the most delicious fare l've tasted in a long time. Impossible to explain the ambience ....it's a manic , bustling taste of authentic Paris you must try for yourself to understand.

we were directed to this restaurant by our hotel staff ( we were staying across the street). the room is small, the tables are right next to each other, and the atmosphere was both comfortable and lively. the menus was in French, but every dish was carefully explained to us. the service was great and the food amazing, so much... I ate here with my wife and we were really treated to a gastronomic delight. This place really is a hidden gem in Paris. Marcel was the perfect host, warmly welcoming, walking us through the menu, and also entertaining all the guests. Remember to book in advance to ensure a table.

Very cosy Authentic French restaurant. Delicious food. The menu was in French but Marcel translated it all into perfect English. Lots of very friendly locals eating there, as well as quite a few tourists. Is very cosy - do not go here if you want privacy! Wonderful waitress and delicious food, would highly recommend this restaurant.

I almost don't want to write a review for this restaurant because I don't want it to be overrun with tourists, but Pierre deserves the glowing review and fellow travelers deserve this info. Our dinner at Chez Marcel was by far the most memorable meal we've ever had in our many times in Paris. The food was wonderful, but that... More

Staying in Saint-Germain-des-Pres

Neighborhood Profile
Saint-Germain-des-Pres
In Saint-Germain-des-Prés, life is effortlessly chic and all things are beautiful. The main boulevard is dotted with famed terraced cafés, haut-couture shops, ivy-covered railings and fine-dining restaurants. Antique dealers and art galleries surround the fine art school and small museums hide in unassuming squares. The neighborhood’s namesake church is the oldest in Paris and is the backdrop for talented musicians every weekend. The Luxembourg Gardens house the national senate, splendid lawns and flourishing flower beds. Famous faces and bourgeois Parisians frequent Saint Germain accompanied by the students of Rue Saint Guillaume and Rue des Saints-Pères. This is a neighborhood where afternoon people-watching from a café or playing cards in a brasserie are a key part of the daily fabric.
