In the now largely sterile foodwise 6th arrondissement "Chez Marcel" offers a refreshing undimmed Parisian experience. In the now largely sterile foodwise 6th arrondissement "Chez Marcel" offers a refreshing undimmed Parisian experience. Far away from the fashiony cantines that have popped up everywhere in Paris lately, Chez Marcel travels you back in time when Arletty was a star, Edith no less so and Marcel was possibly Marcel Cerdan. This is about the décor in the tiny... More

Our wonderful concierge at the front desk of Hotel Le Six, Slimone, recommended this restaurant and we couldn't have been more pleased. In fact, it was our favorite meal that we had during our stay in Paris. We found Chez Marcel to be charming and intimate and Pierre and his wait staff were wonderful and quite entertaining! We had their... More

Was grateful to get a last-minute reservation at this highly acclaimed Parisian restaurant. The place was packed when we arrived for the last seating of the night. All the usual French suspects are on the The menu including the famed Pig Trotter, Cog au Vin, Escargot, etc. Excellent service & food...very tight literally & figuratively. Bravo!

We were staying at the hotel across the street and I had read reviews about this restaurant prior to our getting to Paris. When I asked the hotel about Chez Marcel, they definitely recommended it and arranged to get us a reservation. The restaurant is very small but cozy as well. It's like going to someone's house for dinner. Service... More

We passed it earlier in the day and retraced our steps to the 'interesting, cosy looking one' and it was well worth the walk. Very friendly welcome and service throughout the evening. It is small so worth making a reservation, but they'll fit you in if they can. A great menu of tempting dishes and a cheeseboard that even had... More

We only had one evening in Paris before the long flight home and we had the good fortune to end up dining at Chez Marcel. It reminded us of the great meals we had eatern in the bouchons of Lyon: similarly cosy atmosphere, robust food and good wine by the carafe or bottle. And welcoming, cheerful staff who are obviously... More

This is a fantastic cafe with very welcoming owner. Did not have reservations and the owner welcomed us and made room for us. The food was delicious with great suggestions from our waiter. So glad we found this cafe and was very close to where we stayed

I would not have known about this wonderful Parisian restaurant if it were not directly across the street from our hotel, Le Six. But the food and service was worth seeking out - I had escargots, coq au vin, and chocolate mousse for dessert. The maitre d is very entertaining, and translates the menu for English speakers. Highly recommend for... More

First, you do need reservations and they do not have a website. So call or stop by. We charmed our way to a table for lunch and it was well worth it. The service was outstanding as was the food (I had sole meuniere, my friend had coq au vin). I know nothing about wine but the Bordeaux that was... More

Staying in Saint-Germain-des-Pres

Neighborhood Profile
Saint-Germain-des-Pres
In Saint-Germain-des-Prés, life is effortlessly chic and all things are beautiful. The main boulevard is dotted with famed terraced cafés, haut-couture shops, ivy-covered railings and fine-dining restaurants. Antique dealers and art galleries surround the fine art school and small museums hide in unassuming squares. The neighborhood’s namesake church is the oldest in Paris and is the backdrop for talented musicians every weekend. The Luxembourg Gardens house the national senate, splendid lawns and flourishing flower beds. Famous faces and bourgeois Parisians frequent Saint Germain accompanied by the students of Rue Saint Guillaume and Rue des Saints-Pères. This is a neighborhood where afternoon people-watching from a café or playing cards in a brasserie are a key part of the daily fabric.
