Charlot's Art Deco palace is to be foun d right in the heart of a very lively quarter of Paris. And if Place Clichy reminds you of the seaside, it's entirely thanks to Charlot, reigning supreme for over thirty-five years as the capital's favourite seafood and shellfish restaurant! The authentic Marseille fish soup, bouillabaisse approved by the Marseillais ans with an a la carte twist, is enough to transport you to the seaside.

The food was good, I took an excellent soup as a starter. The grilled fish could use some sauce (a bit dry), but the rice with it was very good. The seafood plate have more fancy food (like Lobsters) than what you can get in similar restaurants of the area for the same price. The thing that really made the... More

I first ate here decades ago and took my current squeeze here as part of our extended New Year celebrations in Paris, on New Year's Day. Most other restaurants in the area were absolutely packed, but this one wasn't, which I suppose is its own message. It was OK, but not sensational. Oysters were oysters. Our main courses of scallops... More

The restaurant reminds me of a cheesy 70's casino. They are overpriced for undercooked food. Service was mediocre. Spent alot of moneyto walk away hungry.

There is something I don’t understand … the geolocation is good , more and more a “bobo” place . The fish and hoister are great and very fresh ! But the deco is out of age and not clean . The global place need to be revamp asap and the service is like the deco a old style. It was... More

Dear Philippe, Thank you for your review. We're glad that you enjoyed our food. Charlot decoration is classic parisian brasserie style and it's full of history. Visited 12/11/14. (I decided to delay this review as it is honest and wanted to think about my experience, rather than write one immediately, whilst still a little angry) Ignored the reviews from people stating they were disappointed with the choice on the menu - The restaurant translation is "the King of Shells" - what were they expecting, steak &... Went here for our last night in Paris. I've always loved sea food, and if you don’t or you’re unsure.. don’t go here! There is only 1 option on the menu (Duck) for non-seafooders... However if you do, this place is amazing! I had salmon and crème fresh for starter.. and it was by far the most amazing smoked salmon... More

We've eaten at Charlot, Roi des Coquillages several times and never beed disappointed. It is probably one of the best "commercial" sea food restaurants in Paris (if you want to pay a zillion euros each, I'm sure there are more "refined" seafood restaurants). The restaurant is situated right on Place de Clichy (not a million miles from the Moulin Rouge)... More

My wife and I travelled to Europe on a tour and as part of the package, this ‘famous and well known restaurant’ was added into the itinerary as the ‘farewell dinner’. I have reviewed a few hotels, but never restaurants. However, in this instance, I wanted to warn travellers about this particular establishment. The entrance is on a busy street,... More

Staying in Opera / Bourse

Neighborhood Profile
Opera / Bourse
The neighborhood around Opéra and Bourse is a belle époque paradise of grand boulevards, refined arcades, and mass-market art-nouveau entertainment. Here, modern day workers continue to take advantage of the legacy that nobility and finance left in the 19th century. Brightly-lit brasseries, theaters, and cinemas sit side by side with French bistros predominating in one area and Japanese restaurants in another. The area is most famous for the Palais Garnier opera house and glamorous department stores.
