Not cheap

We went on our last night in Paris - a friend recommended it. Beautiful restaurant, Paris style. The waiters were a bit stuffy (was it for show ??). The food was good, the ambiance nice. We appreciated it but was a little expensive.

1st off, Brasseirie Bofinger is one of the few good restaurants open on Sunday in Paris. Great staff, good food and good service. I will mention that France is not in a hurry in anything unless it's closing the door for them to be off. You are going to have a little bit of a wait no matter where you... More

I had the saucisse with choucroute, (sausage and sauerkraut), mashed potatoes. The plate was overflowing and I couldn't finish it all. Good service with a friendly manner and good food. Near the Bastille Metro station. This restaurant dates from the early 1900s and is virtually unchanged. This is our second visit to it.

For a place that touts itself as the oldest brasserie in Paris, we expected better food. Atmosphere is fun bustling. Staff friendly and accommodating. But food was just ok. Quiche was cold and bland. Chicken fricassee was dry. Duck breast was ok, but not outstanding. Same for desserts- just ok. Prices, especially wine, very fair, so decent value, but come... More

I have gone to Bofinger more often than I can count. i have gone for shellfish. I have gone for meats or fish. But usually I go the choucroute garni. Last night the choucroute was at best a pale shadow of its former self. For those who don't know choucroute, or have not made it themselves, it is a giant... More

Went for the choucroute and was not disappointed. Excellent service! Nice wine pairings too. A bit on the expensive side, but very good overall.

We stopped at Bofinger our first night in Paris -- a blustery Sunday evening in early May. The place was lively as only a classic Parisian brasserie can be, with a host of true Parisian characters and savvy tourists mingling in the warm, inviting atmosphere. The choucroute de la mer (a seafood-enhanced sauerkraut) was absolutely mind-blowing -- really one of... More

We went to Bofinger in October 2014 and recently in April 2015. Great typical french brasserie menu with well executed simple classic dishes. We had foie gras, sole and mixed seafood. All very good food served in a dynamic ambiance. A real Parisian restaurant frequented by locals and advised visitors. We all liked our food and our evening. You will... More

Ordered a bottle of champagne, a choucroute royale and that's what I call an experience in Paris. Even service was typical Parisien brasserie, but in some way it was different. Food was good and the price didn't put a big rip on your wallet.

I have been in this restaurant a couple of times already, almost every time I come to Paris. The building and the inside are really beautiful and full of history. Service is very professional without being poshy and snobbish. The menu and the wine list feature a lot of options without being too expensive. Everything I tried there was delicious... More

Staying in Le Marais

Neighborhood Profile
Le Marais
The Marais is a winding maze of multi-faceted streets that beg to be explored. It bursts with small boutiques, historic buildings, cozy traditional restaurants, and hidden parks. Around each corner, you'll come across little gems of architecture spanning the centuries, from understated medieval towers to classical libraries and 17th century splendor. This neighborhood unites a rich mix of people of all ages, but it's best known for the gay scene mostly in the south and the Jewish community around Rue des Rosiers.
