Great to hang out outside and watch people walk by

No culinary destination, Le Saint Jean is one of the best places on rue Abbessess to sit outside and watch the people with a glass of wine (carafe is recommended) or black coffee. You can sneak in a croissant from across the street...

We had coffee this morning and they charged us €10 for 2 coffees!! We had coffee earlier at one of the other places in the street and we paid €5 for 2 coffees!! We thought they made a mistake, but no, it was the normal price. Big rip off! And we liked the earlier coffee better!! The location is excellent,... More

We visited this cafe twice when we stayed in Montmartre in December 2014. We found the staff to be welcoming and helpful despite our minimal French language. The food we had was tasty and nourishing and not expensive. We loved watching the comings and goings on Rue Abbesses - seeing every day Parisian life - kids going to school ,... More

Staff were welcoming and attentive. Food was relatively cheap for Paris. Menu was in French and English. Food was of a good standard, not outstanding, but certainly delicious and was served promptly. Would go back anytime.

Spending Christmas in Paris&Montmartre, it was great to visit the Church together with all local residents. It gave a warm feeling.

I have been a customer at St Jean for over 20 years, long before the area became trendy, it was a wonderful brasserie and cafe, I visited last week and was genuinely sad to see how it has deteriorated. It looks ripe for a makeover and I hope that when it comes, it will retain the charm and quality it... More

We were staying opposite to this cafe and tried it on our last day. I paid €6.00 for an awful cappuccino! Our bill came to €25 for 2 coffees scrambled eggs, a croissant and a coca cola. The food and coffee were awful..This does not happen in London! To be avoided!

Changed tables hoping to get served after 15min no service and no menus. Went in and got them myself. Service was terrible! My girlfriend ordered the worst club sandwich ever. I ordered roast chicken that I believe was microwaved. Even the fries were not good. Could get him to come back to pay so i went in and no-one would... More

Le Saint Jean is located in a charmy region of Paris and offers traditional french créps. In general, food is not cheap, as in whole Paris, and not that special. Onion soup is good. If you don't speak french perhaps you will be overlooked.

Staying in Montmartre

Neighborhood Profile
Montmartre
Montmartre is a bustling mix of cultures, colors, and styles which changes from one street to another. Ride the funicular (or, for a real workout, climb the steps) to the sublime Sacré-Coeur (Basilica of the Sacred Heart) with its inspiring view of the city. The church is surrounded by provincial streets and piano bars where tourists, artists, and street entertainers thrive. At the foot of the hill, Boulevard de Clichy features shops not intended for young audiences, while residences are scattered to the north and east. The diverse population includes a large part from the Arab-speaking world, Africa, and Turkey. It’s a corner of Paris full of life and dynamism with charms that can’t be found anywhere else.
