Best meal in Paris

My friend and I had dinner here late one night. The food was amazing. We talked about the food for days after. The staff was very friendly. We did not have a reservation and we luckily were able to get the last table. I would recommend making a recommendation! The portions were generous and the... read more

Counter to most of the reviews, we thought the food was uninteresting and careless--far from what others have experienced. Fish was overcooked, prawn way beyond overcooked, maigret selected and cut poorly, dessert flat. In a very touristy area (top of the Mouffetard)--every table save one was speaking loud, american english. The service was friendly and helpful, the manager particularly engatiating,... More

If you like Hemingway, go there. If you like good service, go there. If you like simply good food at the end of a day in Paris, then go there.

Really cozy setting, guy who I liaised with regarding the bookings was pretty friendly too. Thought the food was mediocre at best, nothing particularly special. Got scallops, shrimp and white asparagus. Also tried a little of the rump steak and codfish. Still would give the place a go if you want something within the area.

Ok but not great. Two in our group thought their meals were spot on, they had the escargot, mixed seafood, foie gras pate. I had the duck with pepper sauce which was ok but I thought was a bit over cooked and dry.

We saw the great reviews on trip advisor and this sweet little restaurant lived up to expectation! Service was particularly attentive and the food was great. We especially loved the pâté and the tarte tartan. A must if you are in the Latin Quarter!

My last night in Paris I wandered into La Maison de Verlaine at 9.00pm for dinner. Fortunately they had one small table available. I had the 3 course set menu which included champagne and coffee which was excellent value. The food was delicious, the staff were helpful and friendly and I loved the decor and ambience in the restaurant itself.... More

Very nicely prepared and presented meals in a charming 18th century house, which was notably home for both the tragic poet Paul Verlaine (he actually died there) as well as Ernest Hemingway in later years. Great menu selection, including chevre chaud, duck, and several types of steak prepared different ways. Seafood is also good, featuring creative dishes made with scallions... More

A lovely restaurant in the Latin Quarter with great food and wonderful service. Definitely a restaurant to visit if you're in the neighbourhood. It was one of our favourite meals of the week.

Staying in Quartier Latin

Neighborhood Profile
Quartier Latin
The Latin Quarter bursts with intellectual life, architectural splendor and ongoing merriment. The small streets are filled with classical buildings, student bars and lively eateries while the squares are dominated by historic monuments. The area is defined by the 800-year-old Sorbonne University, where Latin once prevailed, and is famous for the Pantheon which celebrates the great men and women of France. During the day students rush from classes to the library and intellectuals people watch from the terraced cafés. As night time falls the surrounding establishments fill up and the merriment really begins. The liveliest parts are around Rue Mouffetard, lined with crêperies and international street food eateries, and Place de la Contrescarpe characterised by terraced brasseries, this neighborhood provides real nourishment for the mind, belly, and soul.
