Au Vieux Paris restaurant in the very heart of Paris, on the Ile de la Cite not two steps from Notre Dame, has history and gastronomy in its favour. Patrons Odette and Georges bring their seasonal ingredients each week from the finest organic farms in the Aveyron in southern France to create dishes like warm foie gras, duck breast a lorange, and other classics. The restaurant is sited in an Canons residence constructed in 1512 and the dcor brilliantly over the top reflects history in every detail, the heavily figured scarlet wallpaper and tented ceilings, the antique prints, the exposed stonework and rich draperies. Delicious !

The food was good especially their hot foie gras appetizer and bouef bougnion main plate. We were a little disappointed with their apple tart dessert though. And, of course, their house Bordeaux was quite good.

Found almost by chance and concerns about a wheelchair. Nothing too much trouble for Frederico, we were entertained, serenaded and served immaculately. Most dishes good, some excellent. Superb experience

You start by being pleasantly surprised that there's a place with small restaurant feel so close to Notre Dame. The menu is simple with daily items. Portions on the small side, prices on the high side, but quality is OK. Scallop carpaccio was nice if salty, duck confit was advertised to come with sauteed potatoes, but came with dabs of... More

We were intrigued by this beautiful restaurant on the Ile de Cite and had a cafe( espresso ) outside. The waiter was so friendly we decided to go back for lunch. The restaurant is bigger than we thought. We were led upstairs to a red damask room with Limoge china ( don't worry, removed before meal). There was only one... More

We spent a weekend in Paris and we were advised by our hosts to try this restaurant. The dinner took 3 and a half hours with unbelievably lazy service, average food at best (I admit, foie gras was indeed very good!), and tourist trap-like feeling throughout the evening at Au Vieux Paris d'Arcole. I would avoid the place.

Cozy little restaurant steps from the Notre Dame. Pick your own bottle from the wine cellar, opt for the chef's tasting menu for dinner, and enjoy an authentic French meal in a uniquely decorated setting.

If you visit the Notre Dame cathedral you MUST try and grab a table. The food is fantastic, DO get the duck confit or the fois gras, the atmosphere is awesome and the service is great. We were fortunate in that there was a table available outside so we enjoyed everything that this restaurant had to offer in terms of... More

Our guide recommended this place since we did not have reservations any where and she didn't want us to have bad food. The restaurant feels like you've entered a cave (a lovely one), the food is homemade, fresh, and french. There is an English menu and a French menu. Beware that the English menu does not have everything that is... More

Small restaurant practically next to Notre-Dame, just go along the left side of the basilica, turn left, and about 100 metres, there you are. It's been a while since I've been, but if Georges and Odette are still the owners, you MUST have the Escargots D'Aveyron (this is Odette's hometown). One reviewer said service was slow, but I've never seen... More

This place is a must see, it was very romantic! They have this really cool old winecellar (from like the 1700's or something) where you can go down by yourself and choose your wine. Food was so and so, good value and very good service, they made you feel soo special. Will come again if I have the chance.

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighborhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
