Description: Au Vieux Paris restaurant in the very heart of Paris, on the Ile de la...
Au Vieux Paris restaurant in the very heart of Paris, on the Ile de la Cite not two steps from Notre Dame, has history and gastronomy in its favour. Patrons Odette and Georges bring their seasonal ingredients each week from the finest organic farms in the Aveyron in southern France to create dishes like warm foie gras, duck breast a lorange, and other classics. The restaurant is sited in an Canons residence constructed in 1512 and the dcor brilliantly over the top reflects history in every detail, the heavily figured scarlet wallpaper and tented ceilings, the antique prints, the exposed stonework and rich draperies. Au Vieux Paris is terribly romantic - youll even have to stroll by the Seine to get home.

Looks good, tastes good

Despite being so close to Notre Dame, there were many French voices around the room. No wine list but a trip to the cellars to choose your red (only one house white!). Good cooked and cold fois gras for myself and my wife. Service was "robust" but did not become rude so net effect was... read more

There once was a magical picture posted on a bohemian page on Facebook! Tracking down the picture via the signage I discovered and "bucket listed" this faerie like place. Arriving mid morning, I was too early for lunch, thankfully a delightful cupcake store next door tide me over as I attended Sunday Mass at Notre Dane and returned for an... More

I had this restaurant on my must-see list just knowing how beautiful it is outside and that it is the oldest restaurant in Paris. The exterior was indeed one of the most beautiful little cafe/restaurants I've ever seen, the turquoise chairs and the purple walls and the traditional font and plaques, it was all very beautiful and almost fairy tale... I know much about rude waiters in Paris but this was something! Our table was booked for 9pm and I turned up at 9.10pm. No-one seemed to know that we had a reservation (for a special birthday dinner). When asked to choose a table upstairs, it took 20mins to get the menus and asked if we wanted a drink. The... More

We really enjoyed our lunch in Au Vieux Paris. It's perfectly located close to Notre Dame, but not so close that you see and hear the crowds! We had a large salad and the salmon for lunch. Good was delicious, though the portions were small and it is pricey. Our waiter was really nice and gave us a lovely your... More

My buddy and I dined at Au Vieux Paris twice. My first dinner was fine. A week or so later, my second meal was horrible. For my second dinner, I ordered chicken, anticipating to receive a white beast of chicken. Instead, I received a perhaps warmed-up chicken thigh, with virtually no meat on it. I had three mouthfuls, and that... More

At best the food is average and the wine selection definitely needs improvement. The menu is entirely overpriced for the quality of food & drink you receive. Ultimately, what made the experience so terrible was our waiter. He was rude, ostentatious, and a total creep. At one point I even heard him tell 2 girls leaving the restaurant to go... More

This is said to be one of the oldest restaurants in Paris, if not the oldest. You probably need to be in a relaxed frame of mind to eat there; there seems to be a variety of menus, and a variety of places to eat (we had both lunch and dinner, on different days, in the intimate little downstairs room,... There seem to be two menus on offer at this restaurant - one for English speakers and one for French. The English menu seems not to have the choice of the French one and the specials of the day were not offered to us. The food was expensive and whilst being told the duck confit and chicken were the "best... More

it was such a surprise. Food was traditional tasty french food. Our waiter were so nice that he even adjusted one of our appetizer from the set menu. We thought the wine that came with the set menu would be by glass, but NO~ it was a whole bottle, totally enough to get us drunk. 5 stars!!

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighborhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
