interesting experience

I first saw photographs of this very old restaurant ages ago, and decided I must visit myself. Photos do not do justice to the loveliness of the exterior. So off we went exploring, i didn't know the name or where in Paris it was. Lo and behold it was on Ille de Cite, we were staying on Ille St... read more

We were here in 2010 and were lucky enough to have a meal here again. It is close to the cathedral in a historic building. The food was very good and the waiter was very nice. We enjoyed sitting outside for our meal. This restaurants menu choices are good enough for most people to be happy.

Although we did not get a chance to eat there, we got a great tour by the Maitre De, who is also an ametuer opera singer , the decor is amazing and the food looked traditional French.

The decor of this place reminds you of the medieval history of the building. Serves traditional French! Scallops for entree were beautiful, soft and covered in a herby sauce. The confit duck for main was crispy on the outside and tender. We thoroughly enjoyed our food. The only minor negative feedback is the staircase leading upstairs is very narrow and... More

This was one of the restaurants on our list to try if we had time while in Paris. Since we were at the Notre Dame Cathedral, it was a perfect opportunity so stop. The restaurant itself is quite striking. We got a little snack and something to drink which came fairly quick. The food itself was tasty - similar to... More

There once was a magical picture posted on a bohemian page on Facebook! Tracking down the picture via the signage I discovered and "bucket listed" this faerie like place. Arriving mid morning, I was too early for lunch, thankfully a delightful cupcake store next door tide me over as I attended Sunday Mass at Notre Dane and returned for an... More

Despite being so close to Notre Dame, there were many French voices around the room. No wine list but a trip to the cellars to choose your red (only one house white!). Good cooked and cold fois gras for myself and my wife. Service was "robust" but did not become rude so net effect was charming. Great setting for a... More

I had this restaurant on my must-see list just knowing how beautiful it is outside and that it is the oldest restaurant in Paris. The exterior was indeed one of the most beautiful little cafe/restaurants I've ever seen, the turquoise chairs and the purple walls and the traditional font and plaques, it was all very beautiful and almost fairy tale... I know much about rude waiters in Paris but this was something! Our table was booked for 9pm and I turned up at 9.10pm. No-one seemed to know that we had a reservation (for a special birthday dinner). When asked to choose a table upstairs, it took 20mins to get the menus and asked if we wanted a drink. The... More

We really enjoyed our lunch in Au Vieux Paris. It's perfectly located close to Notre Dame, but not so close that you see and hear the crowds! We had a large salad and the salmon for lunch. Good was delicious, though the portions were small and it is pricey. Our waiter was really nice and gave us a lovely your... More

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighborhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
