Au Vieux Paris restaurant in the very heart of Paris, on the Ile de la Cite not two steps from Notre Dame, has history and gastronomy in its favour. Patrons Odette and Georges bring their seasonal ingredients each week from the finest organic farms in the Aveyron in southern France to create dishes like warm foie gras, duck breast a lorange, and other classics. The restaurant is sited in an Canons residence constructed in 1512 and the dcor brilliantly over the top reflects history in every detail, the heavily figured scarlet wallpaper and tented ceilings, the antique prints, the exposed stonework and rich draperies. Awesome winecellar

This place is a must see, it was very romantic! They have this really cool old winecellar (from like the 1700's or something) where you can go down by yourself and choose your wine. Food was so and so, good value and very good service, they made you feel soo special. Will come again if I have the... read more

Our guide recommended this place since we did not have reservations any where and she didn't want us to have bad food. The restaurant feels like you've entered a cave (a lovely one), the food is homemade, fresh, and french. There is an English menu and a French menu. Beware that the English menu does not have everything that is... More

Small restaurant practically next to Notre-Dame, just go along the left side of the basilica, turn left, and about 100 metres, there you are. It's been a while since I've been, but if Georges and Odette are still the owners, you MUST have the Escargots D'Aveyron (this is Odette's hometown). One reviewer said service was slow, but I've never seen... More

Eccentric restaurant, enjoyable service and an unforgettable memory. With an online recommendation we easily found this place at lunchtime. Intending to eat there and then, we decided to book for an evening meal and before leaving the waiter from treated us to free wine and coffee. Unexpectedly generous! Returning later our same waiter - Frederico welcomed us like old friends.... More

I went to Au Vieux Paris for dinner and I have to say that I found a very good place. First of all, the ambience is really cool, it really seems to go back in time and, except that, it is really different from the other bistrot/restaurant of Paris: tables are normally dimensionedthem and with a good distance between !!... We have been coming here for a very long time and every time we enjoy the seared foie gras! This is probably the best foie in Paris! This small space is not for tall people! My husband is 6’4” and could not fit at any of the tables. The select yourself wine cellar is such a treat and so fun... More

I would not have thought that a restaurant near Notre Dame would be anything but touristy, but this place is for locals and romantics. A friend who was born in Paris begged me to go so away I went. Great menu and daily specials. Deserts made daily on site as is the bread. Scallops I ordered were promised to be... More

Just a block away from Notre Dame, this small, quaint, restaurant is wonderful. The good is very good, the house wine a good selection but the service was very amiable and fun. The decor is worth a visit alone. I recommend Sunday lunch- this was the most fun!

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighborhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
