Delicious and larger portions than most Paris restaurants

We had a delightful meal in a lovely atmosphere. Be careful ordering, though, because the portions are large. The pork ribs and duck were very large, in fact, but very good. The foie gras was delicious. The salted caramel crime brûlée was divine. The sorbets were also very good.

This was our third visit to Comptoir and our sixth visit. The food was outstanding and the service was perfect. They only change their menu each season, but it has great variety and everything is delicious. I had the sea bass last night and it was one of the best meals I have ever had. We have already made reservations... More

Sometimes it is difficult to find a great restaurant when you are a tourist. However, we got lucky on this one!

My wife and I went to Comptoir de la Gastronomie for lunch with another couple on a Friday in mid-April. We had reservations, but not sure they were needed. We sat outside on a pleasant side street and enjoyed a very nice meal. My wife and I each had the Plat du jour, which was a shrimp brochette with a... More

Somewhat decent food yes, but they really don't care if you ever come into their establishment. Plan to be at the table for 45 minutes before ever getting a glass of wine. There are so many other great restaurants in Paris that this shouldn't even be on your list.

My feelings were hurt when my wife and I endured a ninety minute wait before tapping out of this delightful, yet undermanned bistro. The onion soup I did have was excellent, but I am now left with only fantasies about my entree. The good thing is I was only in town for business and won't be faced with the dilemma... More

Even with a baby in a stroller we managed to fit into this small restaurant. The service was great and amiable, the duck breast, pan-fried foie-gras and a Gourmnad salad was perfect! The onion soup was too salty and too sweet to my taste at the same time.

French Onion soup was excellent. As was the sea bass. Really cute place, good service, fair prices, rich but delicious food!

this place is super casual, small tables not that fancy, but the food is excellent. I had the duck breast which was like nothing I have had in the US, very firm, thick, meaty and super tasty. The pate was outstanding and we also had the bass and onion soup. In hindsight we should have done the foie gras, the... More

We really enjoyed our meal at Le Comptoir. Lovely window seat to allow us to watch the world go by as we ate dinner, friendly waiting staff who spoke English far better than I can speak French (blush) and a short, but interesting menu. What was especially nice was our waitress helped us choose the best dishes for our meal.... More

Staying in Les Halles

Neighborhood Profile
Les Halles
Historically the central iron-clad market of Paris, Les Halles has evolved architecturally since then but the pulsating energy has stayed the same. Now it houses the main shopping mall, which nestles underground surrounded by fast-food take-aways and international restaurants coupled with beautiful churches and the old commodity exchange. Parallel to it are the high-street stores of Rue de Rivoli and just parallel to that the Seine. The area bustles with faces from all continents and all ages at all times of the day. If enjoying high-street shopping with easy access to fast eateries and lively bars is on your agenda, this is the place to go.
