Excellent duck at a great price

this place is super casual, small tables not that fancy, but the food is excellent. I had the duck breast which was like nothing I have had in the US, very firm, thick, meaty and super tasty. The pate was outstanding and we also had the bass and onion soup. In hindsight we should have done the foie... read more

We really enjoyed our meal at Le Comptoir. Lovely window seat to allow us to watch the world go by as we ate dinner, friendly waiting staff who spoke English far better than I can speak French (blush) and a short, but interesting menu. What was especially nice was our waitress helped us choose the best dishes for our meal.... More

Great no nonsense home made food without micheline price tag, will definitely come again. Very friendly English speaking staff.

I know people have reservations about eating foie gras and are put off by the idea. My wife had never had pan fried foie gras before so we both had it for our starters. She loved it, it was really good. In fact the whole meal was excellent and the place was full at lunchtime with people being turned away.... More

Great little restaurant that serves the most amazing onion soup, slightly sweet with melted gruyere and croutons. We also had the foie gras ravoli in a butter cream sauce and the duck breast with mashed potatoes. All the food was delicious, and the wait staff was very friendly and attentive. Tip: Even though I made a reservation through Fork (powered... More

You will miss if you are in Paris and you do not go to this Bistro. For starters: beef tartare. Presented as three separate portions of tartare on a wonderful cracker/bread – wonderful. Next, was the best pork dish I have had in Paris. In the States we might refer to it as a rack of pork, but the bones... More

Onion soup and creme brulee on their best! Terine de Foie gras as expected while the fresh one was above average. If you sit near the service room, lot of noise. The service very good, speaking English and quite friendly. We have made a reservation but nothing checked when arrived. The tables close to each other.

6 of us enjoyed a day trip to Paris to celebrate 3 of our numbers 50th birthdays. I chose this Restaurant because of its location and reviews on this site, and we were not disappointed. A brief menu, but surely better to do a small number of dishes very well rather than a large number badly, and these dishes were... More

I had a most pleasant dining experience at the Comptoir on a recent Saturday afternoon. First of all, the single best element of this bistro is the service. Every single one of the servers was super courteous and friendly, and they all speak perfect English. I showed up near 1 pm on a Saturday without a reservation, and after seating... More

Ate here twice on our recent trip to Paris. Without wanting to single anything out, the Onion Soup, duck and Veal stew were spectacular. Staff pretty friendly and nice relaxed bistro. We're here on last trip to Paris and will be here again on next visit.

Staying in Les Halles

Neighborhood Profile
Les Halles
Historically the central iron-clad market of Paris, Les Halles has evolved architecturally since then but the pulsating energy has stayed the same. Now it houses the main shopping mall, which nestles underground surrounded by fast-food take-aways and international restaurants coupled with beautiful churches and the old commodity exchange. Parallel to it are the high-street stores of Rue de Rivoli and just parallel to that the Seine. The area bustles with faces from all continents and all ages at all times of the day. If enjoying high-street shopping with easy access to fast eateries and lively bars is on your agenda, this is the place to go.
