Tourist friendly small restaurant near Rue Cler

My wife and two kids ate here based on a Rick Steves recommendation in his guide book. We called and made reservations and the owner spoke enough English for us to communicate. Though we ate early enough that there was no need for reservations. The restaurant has about 5 tables and the owner... read more

We (family of 3) visited this restaurant on our second evening in Paris while still getting over a bit of jet lag. We went early just after 6 pm and were the only ones there on a chilly February evening. We all ordered the beef bourguignon from a "formula" menu and two of us ordered entrees and the other the... My wife & I have been frequenting La Varangue, owned & run by Philippe Mollay, for over 10 years now; we've watched Philippe's daughter, Marie-Catherine, go from skipping rope in front of the restaurant to preparing for post-secondary school. What you will find at La Varangue are the following: --a warm welcome from a long day of sight-seeing; --an intimate... More

The food is very, very good. I can vouch for the beef bourguignon and rosemary chicken, but what makes this place a truly special experience is the chef and owner, Phillipe. He is such a character and he truly loves his vocation. It was one of our most memorable meals in Paris.

We recently returned from Paris and had a very good experience at a quiet, friendly restaurant serving great beef bourguignon, a different but good lobster bisque and delicious crème brulee. Philippe, the chef/owner, couldn't have been nicer and made it a very memorable dinner in Paris.

I ate at this restaurant 7 years ago when I was in Paris and the food was excellent, so when I returned I was excited to go back. The restaurant was scheduled to open at 5:30pm and we were there at that time to eat an early dinner. He opened the doors and appeared mad that we were there! He... More

My husband and I were not in the mood to fight for a spot on a Paris terrace only to be ignored by the waiters. We knew Phillipe's place existed because of Rick Steve, and we're happy to have been served a delicious French meal with excellent service and good wine. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone!

A little off-the-beaten path restaurant run by solo chef, Phillipe. The food is absolutely amazing especially their rabbit (lapin) with thin gravy and mashed potatoes.

We learned that finding a good restaurant in France is a matter of wandering the streets of the town you are in. Sometimes in Paris, we searched for an hour going up and down the streets away from the tourist areas. We were reading the menu in the window of La Varangue when a couple sitting at a table told... Six years ago we stumbled upon this fantastic restaurant. It was too good to be true. Here we are again, back in Paris and headed straight to LaVarangue. Do not miss this treasure. It's a family run business so don't expect waiters in tuxedos. For euro 15.00 you can order duck, rabbit, beef bourguigon and if you're a vegetarian, he... More
