Fantastic Icecream

We stayed on Ile St Louis so were fortunate to enjoy Bethillon everyday. Our favourite flavours were dark chocolate, salted caramel, choc orange and prune and armanac. The biggest decision each day was whether to re order a favourite or try a new flavour. This is a must visit!

Berthillon ice cream is #1 in Paris. The Rue st.-Louis has at least 3 shops to enjoy this treat. Sometimes there are lines waiting to enjoy. Hint--if you have difficulty deciding which flavor ask for a taste (similar to Baskin-Robbins).

Although I prefer Italian gelato (rather than regular ice cream) as served at the nearby Amorino chain, Berthillon is a good choice if you are in search of ice cream. It is often considered "the place" for ice cream in Paris. Some of the flavors are seasonal, therefore, varying from day to day. Be aware that serving sizes are quite... More

Had this ice cream 27 years ago and remembered it was so wonderful. Got the same two flavors White Chocolate & Chocolate Orange this trip and they were just as spectacular as I remembered!

Tried the icecream when were around Notre Dame Cathedral. It was a decent size line but from reviews, we decided to wait to see what the hype was. It was good but a little sweet for us. We had pistachio and hazelnut.

Believe in the hype. I went for both the fig and the raspberry. Found myself in flavour heaven. It has been two weeks since our Paris day and I am still thinking about that raspberry treat.

BEST ice cream to be had by far! you can visit the Notre Dame Cathedral and then make your way over here. stand in one of 2 lines (there are 2 separate places) to get take-away and one sit-down cafe with a minimum order. We had a nut allergy in our party and after some explaining as to the washing... More

It's like no place else in the world. I always wonder is it because I'm walking the streets of the I'lle St Louis that this ice cream tastes so good. But I have been many times and I've come to the conclusion - no, it's really THAT good! Yes, the lines are often long, but there is a reason for... More

Before you visit this place, it is important to stress the difference between Ice Cream and Gelato. Berthillon makes Ice Cream (traditional French Style) and Sorbet. it may seem expensive but the quality is certainly there. The lime and strawberry sorbets were excellent; likewise the Coconut and Nougat were flavourful and nice. This ice cream place misses the 5 star... More

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighborhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
