This was our favourite for many years but hasn't maintained top spot (unlike "A'Table"). Food still good, and 15 Euro meal excellent value but no written menus, only chalk boards. Fine for some, but quite a few choices are excluded from the set menu deals. What is unacceptable, in my view, is the lack of a wine list - you... More

Although there are just four tables on the street, there is a terrace upstairs as well. Decent food, and we managed with a two course set dinner for just €12. By the glass, house wines only, larger selection by the bottle.

We've been visiting Chinon for years to see friends, so It was great to see Ludovic and Angelique's new place. They make a lovely atmosphere and fine bistro cooking where ever they go, we can thoroughly recommend l'ardoise. They are real foodies and pay a great deal of attention so as usual great food and local wine, as well as... More

What a delicious comfortable place for lunch. Recommend by the lovely people at Domaine Charles Jouget, I was rewarded by driving into this handsome town, parking by the river (near Rabelais statue) and walking a few mistaken blocks in the narrow sweet streets. It was a warm sunny day and a table outside opened up. Like so many places the... More

We visited L'Ardoise during our stay in the Loire valley and found it to be friendly food excellent. We dined off the set menu and the choice was very good something for everyone - well worth a visit !!

The food is acceptable but if u are looking for a relaxing place this is not it. The restaurant is very busy but staffed with just two servers. These folks are run ragged and it is rather distracting. Found it impossible to relax and enjoy the evening. There are better places in chinon

L'Ardoise used to be our favourite restaurant in Chinon and I reviewed before as excellent. It now seems to have become just another bistro and has for us lost its sparkle. The service was ok but not as personal as before, just like the average bistro in fact. No wine list was offered when we asked for a glass each,... More

Really great restaurant. Extremely well priced and the food is terrific in terms of quality, presentation and price. Good wine list as well. We go there regularly throughout the year.
