We had to book as this place was popular. The menu was different to the usual French fayre in tourist locations hence why we gave it a try. Nice environment, well appointed inside with a nice courtyard dining area outside. The food was very good - a hot prawn soup with goats cheese to start was different and enjoyable. Very... More

This charming and tasty restaurant was so good we went back again. There are so many choices for dining in the lovely medieval town of Chinon but the romantic and flower filled garden setting of Le Gandoyau, the varied, delicious and reasonably priced menu, the friendly service and the good wine drew us back for more.

After finding our first choice restaurant full, we wandered through the older streets of Chinon and decided to give this place a try. We were in the mood for simple brasserie food. The exterior is lovely and the interior is cosy with stone walls. Service was a little frosty but did warm and perhaps the guy just had a dry... More

We had a very warm welcome here out on the terrace. Food average, wine - delightful Chinon blanc at a reasonable price. We had the set formule - cheapest option and we thought it good value for money. Nothing out of the ordinary but we enjoyed our evening as the service was prompt and friendly.

Since this restaurant opened (I think five years ago), the menu has never ever changed, even the 'plat du jour' is always exactly the same... which about sums up the whole experience. It is okay. The food is edible, the place is clean, the house wine is drinkable and not over-priced, the service is adequate... it has possibly the best... More

This was our favorite meal in two weeks of travelling through Amsterdam, Brussels, and Paris. True, we don’t go to Michelin-rated places, but we do look for authentic representations of whatever cuisines we are trying, and Le Gandoyau was hit the bulls-eye for us. We arrived late, after most restaurants in this smaller town have closed for the evening (we... More

My wife and I went to dinner on Saturday 26th September 2009. The waiter was extremely rude and abrupt, the service was terrible and the meal was grossly overpriced for the size and quality of the portions we were served. Some lettuce was delivered to our table without any dressing - 4 bottles of miscellaneous olive oil etc was placed... More
