We were delighted to discover L'Epicerie for our last night in the Loire Valley. This family owned restaurant ( a highlight was meeting the woman owner who keeps the 37 year family tradition going) puts a Loire country taste on pork, beef and vegetables. The French present the best salad verge and the salad at L'Epicerie was chilled and garnished... More

Typical "tourist" restaurant located on the other side of the street from the Chateau. Menu had probably the best selection from all the other restaurants in the vicinity. 3 of us opted for the Cuisses d' Canard which was OK and a good sized portion, but it was let down by the very greasy pomme de terre side dish. 4th... It has been many years since I dined at l'Epicerie and was high time I returned. My recent meal here was better than my first experience and I think I know why. The prix fixe option offers better value for money with multiples choices at each course. However no single option excited me on this occasion and so I opted... More

My wife, in-laws, and I took the recommendation of our chateau owners on the best place to eat in Amboise. The food and wine are all locally sourced. Excellent flavor and wonderful service. The owner took extra time to explain the menu and the foods origin. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Reading other people's reviews is always interesting - some have a bad experience, others are happy. We belong to the latter category here. The owner and her staff work hard and smilingly, and have provided us with some excellent food and reasonably priced wine. I have submitted some critical reviews in the past (one today!), so I don't lavish praise... More

I went to dinner with my wife tonight at L'Epicerie for our honeymoon. DO NOT make the same mistake we did. We were there for 2.5 hours and our dinner plates were still in front of us with empty wine glasses. I could not get anyone's attention to save my life (and I was very politely trying). After 2.5 hours,... More

I read that some readers wrote it was overpriced. I thought it was fair. 26 to 35euros for a 3 course menu of soup, main course and dessert for dinner in a very touristic area where the food is fairly decent, I think it is acceptable. Of course we could have eaten better for lesser further but the restaurant was... More

We ate here last week for dinner and sat outside. The restaurant is located in the very heart of Amboise in the shadow of the chateau. We ate one of the 4 course prix fixe menu (including cheese). Cost was about 28euro each (I think), which as far a I am concerned represented one of the very best value meals... More

we arrived at 7.40pm intending to leave by 9.30 to see a show. we were kept waiting and waiting. It took an hour to bring our starter, which was cold. we finally left around 10pm, too late to see our show. Food was below average.

The food is very good, but a bit expensive. The cheeses are really good. Nice service too. You'd do better at La Breche for the same kind of food.
