The place to go !

Awesome place, succulent food, the room is classified ! The mood inside is like the very old "French brasserie" ! You have to go there.

Meeting my friends for school reunion last Saturday, 18th October 2014, we all had fantastic experience at le Francais. Frog legs for starter and Poulet de Bresse à la crème with its gratin dauphinois .... to end with a tasty strawberry tartelette.... GREAT AND TASTY FOOD!! You have to book in advance to avoid disappointment. The food, the atmosphere, the... More

I took my wife here for her birthday whilst on holiday and staying in Bourg. It had been recommended by our hotel, and I'd booked a table to ensure we got in as I'd been told it was very busy as it was very popular - which it was! It's a very traditional French Brasserie serving very traditional and local... More

If Bourg-en-Bresse is a stop over on the way to other parts of France, the Brasserie 1900 Le Francais makes it all worth it. It is a genuine old Brasserie with heaps of character and Old French style Brasserie ambiance. It may not compete with the ornate and expensive art noveau decor of Bofinger in Paris, but for an out-of-the-way... More

I'm from Bourg (leaving abroad) and this was my first time in "Le Francais" (with my Dad). Meaning that it was not the first time I had frog legs and "poulet a la creme". I was disappointed by the frogs: the portion was too small and too cold (frog legs need to be very hot). The "poulet a la creme"... More

Four family members dined here on a Friday night in January. I had booked in advance by 'phone; just as well because a fully booked notice was up on the door by mid afternoon. We all enjoyed being in a restaurant that was absolutely humming, mostly with large, local family parties ("Happy Birthday" was sung three times). The decor was... More

At 8pm when we sat down I wondered why we had been advised to book in advance. At 8.15 I knew as this terrific restaurant (I did not have the benefit of seeing TA reviews in advance) filled to its large capacity almost exclusively with locals judging by the rapport between staff and clientele. And what a great time we... More

Obviously, from reading a few negative reviews, some people simply cannot be satisfied. The decor was a delightful throwback to more elegant days. The dining room is beautiful and eating on the outdoor deck on a cool night, an added treat. We had fois gras and escargot to start, chicken in a cream sauce as our entrees and a raspberry... More

We drove from Lyon to Bourg-en-Bresse to try the famous chicken in cream sauce. The chicken was tender enough but the cream sauce tasted like Campbell's Cream of Chicken soup that had been diluted. Although I know the restaurant did make the sauce from scratch, it seemed like something was missing to make it spectacular as the dish is supposed... More

A memorable place to eat with authentic 1900 décor. The service was professional and the food excellent value . We had the 37 euro menu of four courses and drank red and white house wine. It was hot and we both had an interesting local salad with smoked duck breast. My husband had rather unevenly cooked lamb chops with excellent... More
