Situated close to the entrance of this beautiful walled city is this wonderful restaurant. We had the four course lunch menu with an incredible choice. The staff were extremely polite and spoke English very well so no problem if you know no French. We had a fabulous bottle of Poilly Fume. Service and the food was first class. Would certainly... We stumbled by this , saw the Maitre Restauranter sign, signifying they actually make what they serve on the premises, and booked for a Saturday lunch. Set menu at 24 euros, amuse guele, gorgeous salmon tartare, duck , fish. Menu is in French but English is well-understood. Charming service and lovely food, get a sense this place is going to... They do not speak English but are very forgiving og bad French. It is ridiculous that other reviewers give this place 1 star because the menu and staff is French only. Quaint and rustic interior and exterior but with a lot of charm. Decent wine menu with more than decent prices for top champagnes as Krug and Cristal. We had... More

St Malo is not short of restaurants. My tip is when looking for restaurants in a tourist town, look further away from the main squares and tourist areas and look for a smaller menu. The quality can't be high with 40 choices of a main course. Restaurant Gilles had the Maitre Restaurateur sign in the window, which is a fairly... More

There are many restaurants in St Malo offering fantastic seafood, where all the restaurant needs to do is not get in the way of the wonderful ingredients. Some though try a bit harder. Gilles is one of them. Located a bit off the busiest parts of Intra-Muros, Gilles doesn't look very interesting from the outside, but inside is a small... More

There are hundreds of restaurants in the old town of St Malo but if you pay another 10 euros for your lunch you move up to a different world. It is also slightly away from all the tourist cafes. The quality of each dish was superb and all freshly made by the chef/proprietor. We were persuaded to have the dessert... More

This restaurant was recommended by Michel at Hotel Quic en Groigne which is where we spent the final night of our holiday. It is a two minute walk "around the corner" from the hotel and Michel told us we would not be disappointed. We weren't. Right off the tourist route, this discreet, small restaurant serves superb food and excellent wines.... More

Having just spent three great weeks in Brittany this was our most delicious meal. The formule menu for 27 euro was fantastic value and included plenty of choice. The décor was simple and pleasing and the service was excellent. The atmosphere was quiet and refined.

In a tourist-trap like St Malo, it was great to find a restaurant, slightly off the beaten track, that served excellent food. We went there for lunch and selected from the standard lunch menu. Starters and mains were delicious and beautifully presented. We skipped dessert, but they looked great. Good friendly and efficient service.
