A happy find on a cold Sunday evening

It was a Sunday and our last night in Saint-Malo. It had been a lovely sunny day but when the sun went down it was a cold and windy April evening. The first two restaurants we had previously earmarked as possibilities for dining were closed on a Sunday night. My partner was all for going to the... read more

This small, quiet restaurant tucked away in the walled city of St. Malo served us a beautifully prepared and seasoned meal. The service was superb, never fussy but always timely. The Noix St Jaques were the best my wife has ever eaten; my duck was cooked perfectly. Each course arrived well presented. If you have only one night to eat... More

Set up a small side street, off the tourist route, felt we were eating in the real France. The decor is simple and understated, black & white photographs enhance the walls. Excellent, varied menu, extremely good value for money. Service was very efficient, a charming waitress with a lovely sense of humour. We will definitely return when we are next... More

We booked this little restaurant for Valentine's Day - what a find! Is unpretentious, great ambience, amazing food! We had a set menu for St valentines and it was delicious! Its not too loud but is friendly smart and I would highly recommend this place! Staff were polite and professional, food was reasonably priced in fact I'd say good value... More

A delicious menu, with a good array of choices. Attentive service. Reasonable value. Did not feel 'touristy', it's location maybe helped, being off the main street.

If you are a lover of fine food this restaurant in St Malo excels. Friendly staff with a good wine list.

Gilles is a little restaurant that has been revamped in its decor while maintaining a very high standard of cuisine. It provides various levels of menu as is usual in France but it really is exceptional value for money. They are trying a but of Asian fusion into their French cuisine but it has not detracted from the French theme.... More

Situated close to the entrance of this beautiful walled city is this wonderful restaurant. We had the four course lunch menu with an incredible choice. The staff were extremely polite and spoke English very well so no problem if you know no French. We had a fabulous bottle of Poilly Fume. Service and the food was first class. Would certainly... We stumbled by this , saw the Maitre Restauranter sign, signifying they actually make what they serve on the premises, and booked for a Saturday lunch. Set menu at 24 euros, amuse guele, gorgeous salmon tartare, duck , fish. Menu is in French but English is well-understood. Charming service and lovely food, get a sense this place is going to... St Malo is not short of restaurants. My tip is when looking for restaurants in a tourist town, look further away from the main squares and tourist areas and look for a smaller menu. The quality can't be high with 40 choices of a main course. Restaurant Gilles had the Maitre Restaurateur sign in the window, which is a fairly... More
