Great location, friendly service

Le Dauphin is located right on the beach promenade so you have a beautiful view of the sea and can watch the sun set. The waitstaff is friendly, and the food is authentic and delicious. The muscles are especially good! It's a causal restaurant.

We stopped off as the sun was setting and the view and location was fantastic. Service was good and friendly. However. The food was poor. Kids had chicken nuggets (overdone), I had mussels (with loads not open) and wife had salad (which was best meal). Feel like they live on location and quality of food is secondary. Shame.

On a gorgeous Sunday evening we decided to have dinner at Le Dauphin which is situated on the promenade overlooking the bay at St Jean de Luz. We were looking forward to a nice relaxing dinner as the restaurant was barely half full. Within two minutes of handing us the menu the waiter was back asking for our order. The... More

Dreadful place, staff couldn't care less and what food there was cold and overpriced. The position didn't help, as the strong wind whistled right through the venue.

My wife and a friend and I visited Saint-Jean-de-Luz while staying in San Sebastian. We drove out for the afternoon and were looking for a lunch spot that wasn't "touristy." After walking around without success, we returned to this spot we had initially passed and decided to give it a try. We had very warm and friendly service (my wife... More

We live in St Jean De Luz for part of the year. We thought we would give it another chance. What a mistake. The service was just as bad, more like the worst of Paris than the typical excellent service for St Jean de Luz. The mussels were the worst we have ever had. Overcooked and full of grit. The... We ate here lunchtime recently, the restaurant is in a nice location overlooking the beach and the menu looked nice. Once we had sat down, it was a while before our order was taken and the waitress was very impatient with our slow and limited French. At the same time we ordered a bottle of wine and some water. The... More

The pros: This restaurant is open all day (most restaurants are closed in the early evening opening about 19.30 -can be very frustrating when you arrive in town first!) so for this reason alone it gets a big thumbs up! It's in a really good location, right on the seafront. There seems to be a good selection of fish on... More

Really enjoyed our meal at Le Dauphin. Can't give it 5 because is wasn't 100%. What let it down was the service. A lot of the staff seemed very young & obviously seasonal, might be better out of season. Food wise, we thought it was great. The mainly seafood menu was good in that it forced the children to all... The five of us seafood lovers went to this restaurant on a wednesday evening. We ordered the "poêlée royale" - which includes half a lobster, 2 camarones, gambas, langoustines and mussles in a flavorful sauce. Everyone was delighted with the food. 3 full poêlées, a bottle of wine and coffees - the bill? just about 20 euros per person! We... More
