My wife and a friend and I visited Saint-Jean-de-Luz while staying in San Sebastian. We drove out for the afternoon and were looking for a lunch spot that wasn't "touristy." After walking around without success, we returned to this spot we had initially passed and decided to give it a try. We had very warm and friendly service (my wife... More

We live in St Jean De Luz for part of the year. We thought we would give it another chance. What a mistake. The service was just as bad, more like the worst of Paris than the typical excellent service for St Jean de Luz. The mussels were the worst we have ever had. Overcooked and full of grit. The... More

We ate here lunchtime recently, the restaurant is in a nice location overlooking the beach and the menu looked nice. Once we had sat down, it was a while before our order was taken and the waitress was very impatient with our slow and limited French. At the same time we ordered a bottle of wine and some water. The... More

The pros: This restaurant is open all day (most restaurants are closed in the early evening opening about 19.30 -can be very frustrating when you arrive in town first!) so for this reason alone it gets a big thumbs up! It's in a really good location, right on the seafront. There seems to be a good selection of fish on... More

Really enjoyed our meal at Le Dauphin. Can't give it 5 because is wasn't 100%. What let it down was the service. A lot of the staff seemed very young & obviously seasonal, might be better out of season. Food wise, we thought it was great. The mainly seafood menu was good in that it forced the children to all... The five of us seafood lovers went to this restaurant on a wednesday evening. We ordered the "poêlée royale" - which includes half a lobster, 2 camarones, gambas, langoustines and mussles in a flavorful sauce. Everyone was delighted with the food. 3 full poêlées, a bottle of wine and coffees - the bill? just about 20 euros per person! We... More

I have recently moved to Saint Jean de Luz and chose to eat at Le Dauphin simply because it has the highest Trip Advisor rating of any restaurant in the town. Perhaps because my expectations were so high the disappointment was that much greater. We were shown to a table by a pleasant waitress, the restaurant was very busy. The... More

We had been touring through rural France for almost three weeks, picked this place due to other reviews - it was the worst meal we have had. The house speciality in particular was a disappointment - the mussels were small and dry and the prawns little beter - I would not return
