Bistro Food with the knowing locals

A must if you're ready for a meal at 12-noon or 7pm sharp... The place is such an attraction that all the locals know about the need to be there as close as possible to opening times! Food is good local cuisine, and their specialty is meat, so any form thereof will be scrumptious. Being a "bistro... read more

We went here for lunch on our last day in Pau. We'd been looking at the fairly extensive menu a few times in passing and decided to finally bite the bullet. They were full, but managed to get a table for the two of us. The service was efficient and friendly The onion soup was excellent - one of the... More

I think this restaurant is highly overrated and I do not understand the attraction for a place where you can not reserve, the wait time is long, the clients crammed in like sardines with no privacy from their neighbors (removing a few tables would help immensely) and the food ... mediocre. In all fairness, my husband disagrees about the food... More

Fell in love with this place recently and frequent it several times a week. The atmosphere and the service are exemplary, especially considering how busy they are all the time. they provide an English menu and do their best to speak English as well which is very refreshing in Pau for an English guy working here alone. The food and... More

Great duck confit. Long lines to get in. Be prepared to wait minimum 10 minutes. Friendly wait staff.

We were recommended to visit this brasserie from a travel book. However, we were very disappointed. We ordered the steak with Béarnaise sauce and chips, the sauce was delicious, the best ever but our steak was tough and fatty and we had to leave most of it. The waiter was extremely unfriendly and very slow in serving us so we... More

I went with my wife at midday, 12 sharp. The place was already full, we were able to get the last table for two without waiting. We ate the Chateaubriand, it was juicy and tender, nothing to regret. Tables were too close to each other, the ambience is good and the service is ok. Nothing special, but interesting for a... More

So glad to see that the move hasn't changed this restaurant, have been eating here since 2006 and apart from a bad patch in 2009/2010 it has never failed to please. It's a good value basic restaurant with quick service and decent meat and every time we try a new restaurant in Pau we wonder why we bothered.

This is a great fun, busy, noisy bistro. Very traditional - try the steak with Béarnaise sauce and chips and the lovely cakes for pudding. A great place for people watching, drinking good red wine and old fashioned French style.
