Nice Setting, Average Food

Very small place, outside of Le Eyzies. You walk across the road and up an incline. This is located at the cave of the same name. Nice variety on the menu, including salads and sandwiches, but our group of eight agreed the food was only average. The waiter was pleasant and spoke good English upon... read more

We stopped here for lunch with our local professional guide. We were spending the day visiting the Early Man cave paintings. We were quite impressed with the meals. The entrecôte was generous, richly flavored and tender. The grilled duck was rich and flavorful. What we thought was going to be a passable lunch turned into a real treat.

This is a regular stop for tour buses. I was traveling solo so I was given a charming table away from the crowd. I enjoyed a perfect regional lunch of foie gras, bread, salad of local greens and fresh walnuts and a crisp glass of rose. A great way to kill some time until the Laugerie Basse exhibits re-opened at... More

This place may seem like a tourist trap but it is not! I had a delicious lunch there with my family all food is homemade, there was hardly any wait and the lady that owns the place was very welcoming! The view was also beautiful. I HIGHLY recommend this place it's really worth a try! We even returned a second... More

The location is great, underneath a rock shelter. The breeze was cool on a hot day. I had a sandwich and dessert which were both tasty and just right for a hot day.

Good value basic food - a pleasant change from some of the local frites-based snack bars. Some genuine home-cooked dishes plus more commonly found snacks. Great location on a rock plateau half way up a limestone cliff just north of Les Eyzies, frequented by locals as well as tourists.

We were on a guided tour with author and cave expert Christine Desdemain-Hugon and she suggested this place for lunch. It is owned and run by a family and was only 15 euros per person including wine and coffee. Christine pointed out many prominent locals who make this their "regular" for lunch and we could easily understand why. Great food,... More

A friend and I had arranged an entire day with an internationally-known Ice Age cave art expert. After touring two of the caves, our guide suggested lunch at Laugerie Basse in Les Eyzies. It is charming but unpretentious, run by a husband and wife. The wife acts as hostess, the husband is the chef. The indoor part of the restaurant... More

We were recommended to try this wonderful restaurant by a local to whom we had addressed a query about good places to eat. It was the best advice we had received the entire trip. The restaurant is set into the cliff face and is on the same terrace as the Laugerie Basse cavern, easily missed unless you look for it,... More

Laugerie Bas was suggested to us by our guide in the wonderful font de gaume caves, as a place where locals and tourists alike might get a nice meal that was not tourist quality. It is halfway up the hill to another prehistoric site, which was closed on the day we arrived. The lunch varied from the local specialty assiete... More
