Fine dinner outside at the square

In the old part of Bordeaux Chez Jean is a nicely situated restaurant. We had dinner outside, although inside it is also a nice place to be. We had the menu Jean, which was excellent. For starters we had a delicious platter with bruchetta and gazpacho, as main course the veal and as desert ´le... read more

Poor quality, overpriced food. The salmon ceviche lacked the zesty flavours you would expect, and instead came smothered in chantilly cream, a very strange combination which I had failed to pick up from the French menu. The scallop main was good, but only came with four rather small scallops, which seemed rather few at the price. The entrecôte steak however... More

For our family's last night in Bordeaux, we decided to have dinner at our favorite square, Place du Parlement, which was always abuzz with life. It's a bit touristy, sure, but also pretty and charming. We did an online search of all the restaurants on the square, and Chez Jean seemed to get the best reviews. Definitely lived up to... More

One of the two restaurants on Place du parlement with outdoor seating, Chez Jean is a great place to sit outside in the evening and enjoy the goings-on. Most evenings there is some sort of impromptu performance (aka busking!), and every evening there is great people watching. The food was good overall. Le melon is a deconstructed ham and melon... Most amazing dinner here at Chez Jean. Recommended by our hotel and also great reviews on this site. They all lived up to our expectations and more. The staff are very friendly and know the menu inside out and can give excellent recommendations. I was here with 6 other work colleagues, we all had different dishes, they were each unique,... More

We got here by suggestion of our hotel concierge, and were more than satisfied: excellent French food, a friendly and efficient service, we ate "al fresco" in a magnificent location (Place du Parliament). The prices are average (excluded wine, you can eat with 25-30 euro) and worth the quality of food. I suggest to reserve, the place was full (and... More

We were just passing through Bordeaux & stumbled upon this lovely square of restaurants & chose to eat here before our flight home. We both had a lovely fresh hake, sitting on a bed of lentils with sautéed cauliflower & a basket of bread. I had a lovely glass of white recommended by the server following an analysis of my... I had the slow cooked pork and it was devine! the meal size wasn't huge but the quality was excellent. We returned a couple of times during our stay and had the same meals. Not the cheapest but not the most expensive either. The wait staff were very helpful and the restaurant was very comfortable and homely.
