Description: Tucked away into Place Tartas, a stone's throw from centreville, is Soléna, owned by chef Aurélien Crosato, a Bordeaux native and Serena Lee, a native San Franciscan. Classically trained, Aurélien spent 2 ½ years broadening and honing his culinary palette in the foggy city before returning to his hometown. Market driven 3 and 5 course menus stay true to the Sud Ouest region with original and eye opening combinations, such as venison ravioli with aged gouda, soy-glazed magret, foie gras with foraged herbs, and mesquite smoked sturgeon. A solid wine list spans terroirs from juicy, ripe St. Josephs to bucket list Bordeaux vintages, or a glass of Maury to accompany that Turkish spiced Grand Cru chocolate mousse.OUR HOURS: Wednesday through Saturday 20h00 to 21h30 Sunday lunch 12h00 to 14h00 and Sunday dinner 19h30 to 21h30

Unassuming and relaxed but the food was very thoughtful in its amalgamation of ingredients and absolutely delicious. Despite being pressed, the waitress was patient with our lack of French and helped us choose a wine exactly to our taste. The 5 course degustation extended itself with generous amuse bouche and petit fours. Open on a Sunday and able to take... More

Reading other reviews I expected sharply contrasting flavours. And for the mise en Bouche and entree we were not disappointed. (Mackerel with squash, chicken with Parmesan cream, home smoked salmon , deliciously tender with mustard cream and herbs) Main course was a two chop rack of lamb with gratineed onion. A master stroke. The lamb was the most flavoursome I... More

First trip to Bordeaux. Stuck to find somewhere to eat on the penultimate evening but found here luckily! Staff were very accommodating and helped to translate the menu which was in French, to English for us. The food was lovely, a niche French selection on the small menu. I tried Duck for the first time in my life, it was... More

Was just a block or two from Hotel Burdigila and was suggested by the front desk. We had an absolutely wonderful waitress (spoke great English) and she made this a fun night. The menu is a bit more daring than most, so just be prepared to try some new things. With wine and a cocktail, about 125 euro/couple.

This restaurant thrives on making unusual combinations of foods and flavors. Some of them work, some don't. Several members of my party ordered the crab cake, guacamole appetizer. The crab meat was mixed with quinoa. Interesting texture, but not a hit with my party. The dorade entree was much better received, as was the seared pork. My son didn't like... More

For our second dinner in Bordeaux, we chose Solena based primarily on the reviews we found here. As a plus, they are on La Fourchette, which conveniently allows for online reservations like Open Table. And we were so glad we went. With Solena, you get the flavorful experience of haute cuisine in a small and casual environment. Most of the... More

While we sad to see our three month adventure in Bordeaux come to a close, we had the opportunity for one last Sunday lunch before our departure. We chose to visit again with Chef Aurelian Crosato at Restaurant Solena. On our first visit to the restaurant, for my wife Kathy’s birthday dinner, we ordered from the menu. This time, however,... We had a wonderful meal at Solena, the foie gras with cherries and rhubarb totally inspired, the turbot perfectly cooked, the lemon and apricot desserts delicious. The service was excellent, and it was impressive to see the (obviously experienced) waitress in charge teaching a new, young recruit, with real commitment. Wine list good, with interesting options, and the waitress knew... More
