Been many times to this restaurant when on business. Food is excellent and service very good. Building is a beautiful underground place to have dinner.

Typical Alsatian huge portions. Frankly a starter and main are too much. The food is very good as is the service, but, as with everywhere in the town during the Christmas markets, reservation is a must. Right in the centre of town.Happy to recommend.

This restaurant is full of pleasant surprises. First off, you go down the stairs in a scene like in those medieval movies. Then, the staff here unlike some places in France is really friendly and they want to help you pick the best food to wine combination which is awesome. To top it off, the food and wine is excellent.... More

On the recommendation of a local, we dined here in the cellar of a building right in front of the cathedral and had this person's recommendation - the choucroute with three fish. A lighter take on classical choucroute and ideal for a later dinner. It was a tasty dinner but the crowning touch was dessert. Asking our waitress about the... More

We stopped overnight in Strasbourg on our drive to Italy and our hotel suggested the Gurtlerhoft as a good example of Alsace food in an interesting setting. Although the entrance is off the busy Cathedral square area, you enter the restaurant down some stairs and into a large vaulted cellar which was lovely after the busy bustle of the streets.... More

Good experience. Interesting surroundings, good service, in spite of the crowds and good food. A little too frenetic for me but worth a try.

This restaurant was the recommendation of our hotel and close by. The place is rustic looking and inviting. Our server spoke no English but she delivered each meal with an explanation in French and a warm friendly smile. The chicken in riesling wine sauce with home made noodles was a pot of home made goodness. I wish I had more... More

Enter the old castle feel below the city bustle and you are immediately immersed in old world ambiance and a romantic vibe that will accompany your meal. Hubby had the wine sauced chicken with handmade noodles and I had the pot of lamb, beef and pork with potatoes. I was initially overwhemed by the huge size of the portions, but... More

Fantastic diner. All dishes we tried with Münster cheese were fantastic. The location and atmosphere in The cave is authentic and romantic. The wine was great. The service was very friendly. We will come back when we visit Strassbourg!!!

Traveling with a group of 15 co-workers in France, we tried this restaurant upon recommendation of one of the locals. Very good. Food was excellent, wine was good and the atmosphere was great. We tried several dishes including pork knuckle, salmon, beef fillet, Flammekueche, Rœsti, and black forest cake for desert. Would certainly return here again.
