Manchester might be awash with slick dining outfits but none quite like Ning. Unlike many others, Ning values subtlety and sophistication both in its style and its cuisine. Influenced by the noodle bars of Asia's cities, this Northern Quarter venue offers a bustling ambience somewhere between trendy canteen and chichi bistro. With polished wood tables, voguish floral patterned wallpaper and candlelit tables, the interior strikes a similar balance of fashionable buzz meets classy intimacy. Led by award-winning celebrity Malaysian chef Norman Musa, the predominately authentic Malaysian menu also offers Thai and fusion dishes, all made with fresh ingredients, free from MSG. Ning's chefs pride themselves on producing a concise menu of carefully selected and well cooked dishes, and service is attentive without being over-bearing. Malaysian hospitality and food.

Best icecream in an Asian restaurant I've had

I had the Chicken Murtabak and Pad Thai Chicken. Both great choices. For dessert I tried rosewater and coconut icecream and a scoop of mango ice cream. It's the best icecream I've ever had at an Asian restaurant. All this plus one beer set me back 29 pounds.

From the 4 days that we visited Manchester we ate here twice. The restaurant has a great selection of Thai and Malaysian food cooked to perfection. Good value for money! Combined with the great service of the restaurant manager Zach it's is definitely worth to dine here.

My wife and I had been last summer and really enjoyed it then but had somehow managed to forget to go again!? We Started with a nicely chilled Beer Lao, obligatory prawn crackers (with a sweet chilly Dip) I had a crispy pancake with chicken and egg which for me was really unusual and delicious, we followed that with a... I have been a few times in last couple of months and I love Nings. Staff friendly and food wonderful. Having lived in Malaysia for a few years it brings back memories of Malaysian flavours, albeit at a higher price. I would recommend the Roti Canai followed by Beef Rendang but really I can't see you being disappointed with any... More

Someone else mentioned the icecream in their review. I had a scoop of durian flavour and a scoop of pandan flavour. It was amazing. The tastes complemented one another and it finished the meal perfectly. Might these be the new flavours for the mainstream? I doubt it, but it was fun trying them and I thoroughly recommend this end to... More

Had been waiting to eat here for ages and really expected to love this place. Sadly it didn't meet expectations by a long way. We were celebrating an anniversary so went to stay in Manchester specifically to eat at Ning. It's a very busy restaurant but has a strange layout. Staff were really stretched so we didn't feel we were... More

Friendly staff. Good service. Not used to eating Malaysian and staff were helpful in making suggestions. Shared a seafood, hot and sour rice dish with a satay style chicken. Both fresh and tasty. Atmosphere decent.

Had a lovely meal here. Service was friendly, good choice for veggies on the menu and lots of flavour. I had the lentil patties (a bit dry) and green curry which was superb with lots of heat and flavour. Very reasonably priced.

We had chicken satay as a starter, nasi goreng and nasi ayam as mains. All the food was excellent and spicy enough. Not the cheapest but reasonable prices. The atmosphere was a bit like bar with black interior and loud music but those are tolerable. I' d recommend this restaurant for good and authentic malaysian food!

I had takeaway from Ning last night 2 starters [ very boring ] chipshop prawn crackers, 2 main courses , king prawns just about edible and veggie lime curry [very small portion and gloopy ] 2 tiny side orders of rice and noodles . Overall a waste of money , not restaurant standard food but restaurant prices . Will not... More
