We came here to celebrate my birthday. We were really looking forward to it as we have eaten at L'Enclume, rogan and co at fera. We had the 10 course tasting menu and the food was really delicious. Highlights were the ox in coal oil dish and and my vegetarian version with carrots was also incredible. The breaded oyster dish... More

Visited The French again and have to say that once again it was simply outstanding, we opted for the 10 course taster, with each dish seemingly getting better than the last one. Our favourite though was the Ox cheek in coal oil, which is just so clever. This isn't a restaurant for those on a budget though, but that said... More

This restaurant is incredible. It is by the far the best restaurant in Manchester. The food is so modern and creative, the staff are lovely, and the setting is gorgeous. It is one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at, and much better than some Michelin Star restaurants I have been to.

Having been blown away by the whole French experience at the beginning of the year we eagerly booked New Year’s Eve well in advance and couldn’t wait to return. With NYE being my wife’s birthday and neither of us fussy about all the pomp and circumstance of midnight we wanted a more refined, subtle evening so this suited us down... More

Four of us went for a long anticipated Friday evening meal. We had a very enjoyable evening of over four hours. We had the tasting menu and ordered the wine separately. We all agreed that the food was good but lacked that 'wow' factor. We all had dishes we didn't particularly like, although these were different and may have been... More

There is no doubt that The French is a very good restaurant and in our opinion probably the best restaurant in Manchester however with this review I want to critique the restaurant on what it is trying to be and not my expectaion of what it should be doing. Clearly at The French, Simon Rogan and his team are looking... More

We took our staff for a tasting menu at "The French" for Christmas 2014. The restaurant staff split us in to two groups which fragmented the occassion; they served each table ten minutes apart. (We only had eight people in our party). A fine dining experience should have ambiance, impeccable service and wonderful food. Unfortunately, we think "The French" restaurant... More

Four of us had the tasting menu lunch which was wonderful, the only thing I didn't like was the trotter dish, but that is a personal dislike rather than an issue with the quality of the food. Every course was divine and the cheese board was one of the best I've seen. I would totally recommend this restaurant, with the... More

My husband & I dined here for my birthday present. After researching & looking at reviews, it really didn't disappoint! We were both blown away by the detail of every dish & how individual each one was. The wine matching wine tasting menu was out of my budget, so opted for the cheapest Spanish white (£34). It was a great... More
