We have been going to L'enclume for many years, so were delighted when Simon came to Manchester, we often dined at "the old French" but you could see, despite great food, that it needed to change. And change it did, for the better. Love it...a place for a special meal and a real food experience. Impeccable service, exceptional food.

This is like LS Lowry on a plate. Everyone having to pretend that these ridiculously concocted 'dishes' are worthy of praise, when it's not even avarage. Certainly not anywhere near worth the prices. The only choices you have here are either six or ten (yes TEN) 'courses'. You may need to have your supper when you get home!

My boyfriend and I went to the French for our anniversary but it wasn't what we'd expected for a £200 night out which, let's face it,isn't something you do every weekend. The normally ultra classy Midland had a loud wedding party in that night which wouldn't have been a problem had they not seated us right next to a door which... More

Absolutely outstanding meal and service here. We have dined at L'enclume many times, even before it earned its first Michelin star. We have also been frequent diners at all of Simons other restaurants (except FERA we are doing that this year). The food quality easily matches that of L'enclume. It is beyond me how this place didn't get a Michelin... More

Very disappointed, booked 3 months ago, went last night, courses of duck sweetbreads in a turnip broth, egg yolk with oats! cheap meats, same as Manchester House, both are serving up cheap food, I refused to pay in both places! Juniper in Altrincham is very much missed, every meal there was a real treat, start serving good food, no way... More

We ate at the French for the first time this week and I had great expectations as I have eaten at Simon Rogans L'enclume in Cartmel. In comparison to L'enclume I would say that The French has a lot to live up to but in terms of standing on its own as a restaurant, we thoroughly enjoyed it. The food... More

The service and food at the French was truely exceptional. We opted for the 6 course menu which was actually 9 with the appetisers and extra desert, course after course the food was packed with perfectly ballenced complex flavours. Our highlights were the ox in coal oil & the butter poached pollock. I have a good appetite and left appropriately... More

Had a thoroughly enjoyable evening 2 weeks ago at the French, menu is really well thought out and put together and matching wines delightful. Staff very attentive without being over the top and very aware of the dishes and able to advise where necessary. thought that the fillet of beef in coal oil was one of the tastiest and most... More

I went to the French 12 months ago (newly opened) and was very impressed. 12 monthly later I am somewhat disappointed! This was a birthday treat from my husband. We ordered the set lunch menu accompanied by the wine package to compliment the courses. The waiter bought 3 different types of bread but when I tried to break it, it... More

I was a little bit sceptical after watching the program on TV about the restaurant where they had to take things off the menu to reduce cost however what a wonderful experience we had! The decoration is lovely and funky. Mix of modern (gorgeous chandeliers with plain wood tables) with the beautiful walls, mirrors and ceiling. The staff was absolutely... More
