Better than ever ?

This was our third visit. The food was exceptional. The turnip dumplings in beef broth and horseradish shavings were scrumptious, perfectly cooked, and with a depth of flavours. Having experienced a really super meal at Mr Cooper's House and Garden last year my friend and I decided to try out The French for lunch. There was a lovely ambiance and the tables are not crammed together, the waiting staff are friendly and efficient, we were definitely not hurried in any way. We had the 3 course menu with... More

Until we visited the French the best plate of food I'd ever eaten was the venison in coal oil at L'Enclume, this dish has now been knocked off its perch by the slightly tweeked ox in coal oil that they serve at the French. The meal as a whole was just a shade short of what we experienced in Cartmel... More

Having had such a splendid experience at L'Enclume, a meal at Simon Rogan's newest venture in Manchester was a no-brainer. The French is tucked away in the impressive Midland Hotel and once inside it felt intimate and friendly. The staff were totally attentive and we both loved the low seating and rustic feel and look of the table; it was... More

This is a lovely restaurant - The decor is modern and stylish. The staff are very nice - Tables quite far apart so you don't feel crowded. Food exceptional - We had the tasting menu and were not disappointed. Get a table if you can.

We had the three course midweek lunch. The food was beautiful, and with the added cheese course there was plenty of food. The value for money was great with the bottle of wine, water and champagne all included. We were really impressed and the atmosphere was very relaxed and the staff informative and friendly. We will definitely return.

We visited The French for lunch last weekend and myself, husband and son all had the six course taster menu. I chose the vegetarian option whilst the boys opted for the meaty options. At £65 per head for lunch I thought this was fairly steep. However the quality of the food and the service was very good. I think for... More

I very rarely give anywhere anything but a positive review but I absolutely have to give The French one, as the entire experience was a huge let down. I had booked months in advance for a Friday evening reservation for my partners birthday. Having visited Manchester House, The Samling and Northcotes several times and hearing great things about the French... More

We booked a couple of night in the hotel and decided to treat ourselves to a meal at the French, I have to say so glad we splashed out as we certainly weren't dissapointed, we opted for the 10 course tasting menu £85 per person and the pairing wines, the food was fabulous and the wones suited perfectly. The staff... More
