Enjoyed !

Over all it took 4 hours for the 10 courses. Really enjoyed what there was to offer, favourite dishes were the famous raw ox, the fish and the prawn starter. Only problem was I feel like most of the dishes contained beetroot which I'm not a big fan of. Uploaded are the photos of the courses as the... read more

I think because of the fact I had tried a competitor in the area I had high hopes for The French to match my expectations, unfortunately I don't think it did. the food was good but I wasn't blown away, there wasn't really anything there that i remember about the meal apart from the amazing chandelier, and the service wasn't... We booked our table about 4 months in advance as this is where we knew we wanted to celebrate our first anniversary. The restaurant is very posh, the food is very posh, far more posh than we are used to but we loved it!! The food was amazing and we both ate everything that was offered whilst sharing our favourite... More

My husband bought me here for my birthday. We really do enjoy eating out & trying different things so for the odd special occasion we will treat ourselves to a meal in a restaurant like this. We opted for the 10 course taster menu & wine flight & As you would expect the food & drink were phenomenal. The staff... More

Admittedly, since I’m new to Trip Advisor, my review is slightly backdated, but as we had a wonderful experience I felt the need to share. Having visited L’Enclume we knew exactly what to expect here and the balance between the more rustic Cartmel and the grandeur of The Midland was well executed. The welcome was expectedly warm and the service... More

Having visited The French for the first time on a Saturday evening it was obvious why it cannot attain a Michelin star. The restaurant does not feel exclusive enough, being located in a pleasant room immediately next to the busy hotel lobby and bar. The ambience is provided second hand by tinklings from the lobby pianist drifting through, although when... More

I have never experienced such a poor meal. I felt like I was on a conveyor belt. Overrated in every respect . The toilets in the hotel were really untidy, with paper towels strewn on the floors. Not what you expect from such a prestigious establishment. Never again would I visit this restaurant. Many restaurants around Manchester are far superior.... More

In The Midland hotel it is in an oval room, classically decorated, reminiscent of Louis style French, but with modern wooden furniture and a carpet designed to appear like wood. The whole experience appears to be based upon retaining closeness to the roots of food and nature. The only choice is between 2 tasting menus, 6 or 10 courses. We... More

Lovely relaxed dinning experience with friends enjoying the ten course tasting menu and flight of wines. This was booked several months ago, the food is a delight and between us every course was enjoyed although individually some courses were a miss for each one in our party. Even at this level of excellence you can't please everyone all the time!... More

I've had the pleasure of eating in some wonderful restaurants around Europe and in that time I've been blown away by simple dishes and equally felt let down by complex 'style over substance' food. I'd been wanting to visit The French since it was the old French, so with my mother's birthday last weekend I opted to take my parents... More
