Great Afternoon

We had just finished a meal in Salford Quays and sampled the mulled wine in Albert Square, the Christmas Markets. We called into the tavern to finish our day. When we first walked in, we thought it was so busy, we wouldn't get served. However, great staff were operating like clockwork and we had a... read more

Visited on Sunday for afternoon drinks away from the busy markets. Good ambience and good pint of bitter. Quite busy inside but felt like a proper pub and we both enjoyed our visit.

We called in on a Friday lunchtime for a drink and some lunch. Basic menu but was nice with good ales served. Sat in lower part of the pub at the back on some comfy sofas. Only gripe would be the service behind the bar, felt liked I was interrupting them by asking to be served!

Visited yesterday with the idea of enjoying a cheap and cheerful lunch. The place was deserted. A smell of drains pervaded and horrible Christmas music boomed out. Staff showed no interest. We left.

One of the pleasures of trip advisor is the varying reports you get of different places. So walking through the centre of Manchester looking for the right place to get a late(ish) lunch was proving problematic. A heady mixture of no local knowledge (coming from Glasgow), trip advisor review conflicts, personal tastes ( never eat at places that have pictures... More

Many years a&o I used to call here for o drink on my way home. Not pretentious, cheap, real pub. Few later later I used to wait here while picking p daughter from work, still good. Called here. Few weeks a&o- great atmosphere, real beer, great prices.

Not very accessible for disabled people, needs to be brought into the 21st century. Food and drink are fine, staff are fine, but none of this counts if this counts if you are in a wheel chair.

A lovely spot to take a friend who may not know Manchester. The food is traditional eg. Lancashire hot pot type of food. Enjoyable and lovely to eat in an old elegant building.
