Not as good as last time

We had booked an afternoon tea for 5, with 2 vegans to cater for. Very slow even though it was a 3pm booking. Drinks did not arrive on the table together. My Charle Brown hot choc was brilliant, teas were mixed up but worked out. The waiter was great with one pot of tea, bringing an extra teapot to... read more

If you like modern restaurants as found in upmarket chain hotels, this isn't for you. But if you like old tables and chairs in nooks and crannies with wholesome and often imaginative food (rhubarb and custard cake for afters) this may just be for you. Lots of young families midweek lunchtime with kiddies' specials though child free can disappear upstairs.

The Tea Hive is an institution. Random, not rushed and undeniably quirky with a great selection of tea and cakes. The coconut and raspberry cake was absolutely delicious, with that strong tang of homemade jam going through a wonderful crumb that also contained more berries. Always worth the detour to get to.

A lovely independent coffee house; with a varied selection of visitors. The first time I have visited I opted for the full Engish breakfast following a recommendation to visit from a friend. The ingredients are clearly quality ingredients - 2 rashers of bacon, 2 sausages, 2 perfectly poached eggs (scramble or fried are available if that is your will)' thick... More

My first visit, came along for a business lunch and turned out the be the perfect spot to chat over good food and drink. Easily found a table at midday on a Tuesday, although the cafe did fill out quickly over lunch. Quite a fresh and original menu - a variety of soups, sandwiches, salads and cakes, and I opted... Been here a few times now - and no complaints ! - Not a single one. Food good - excellent coffee too. Had one of the best Cortado's ever! Great eggs - great cake too. Carrot cake was exceptional. Friendly , non snobby, non pretentious service. Genuinely friendly.

This is a really nice independent cafe, the food and drink is priced about right for the quality. The coffee is excellent, one of the best I have had in Manchester. The cakes are really good. I have only drank green tea in there and they serve a very nice blend. Recommended.

Firstly its always great to see an independent in what is increasingly a never ending corporate chain of coffee shops. My 'issue' with the Tea Hive happened over the weekend. I took one small bite out of a piece of cake and felt it was too dense/moist and couldn't eat anymore. I returned it to the counter and was asked... More
