Riverside Italian with al fresco dining at Stoneclough, near Bolton.Stefano ran La Roma in Bromley Cross for 10 years and has now moved the operation to Stoneclough, near Bolton. It’s in a picturesque spot right next to the River Irwell and outside seating makes the most of the location. Expect classic Italian food prepared fresh to order with signature dishes like their Cartoccio Mushrooms, deep-fried mushrooms stuffed with pate and wrapped in filo pastry. It’s a large menu with lots of pizza and pasta choices and plenty of meat and fish mains with seafood a real speciality here. The wine list is all-Italian. La Roma is a relaxed and intimate venue, convenient for both Bolton and Manchester. It’s open for lunch and dinner, seven days a week. San Marco in Blackrod is a sister venue.

Always good

Visited 3/1/16. Lovely as always. Visit at least once or twice a month either for family meals or as a couple. Service is always friendly and polite and the front of house staff are always around. The food is good, not had a bad meal. For the price the quality is good. When 5 people (2 adults and 3... read more

I've been there couple of times because I live in locally and my family love this place but every time I think this restaurant is tasteless and wasted of money. The taste is poor, cooking by myself is better than that. I can tell they use very cheap ingredients. Tasteless tomatoes and cheap ham for the pizza (even not prosciutto),... More

Had heard great things about this place, but left with little good things to say. Food was fine, service was acceptable, prices were steep. Had not even sat at the table before we were rushed to order drinks, and i only wish i had taken the time to check the menu. Bottle of house rosé wine gives you very little... More

Frankly I struggle to understand any positive reviews of this place. We had a group of about 20 of us and none of the food was good... pizzas, lasagna, steak, the lot. If the chef has a skill it's hiding the flavour behind bland food.

We had a family meal for 7 of us. We had garlic bread to start which went down well. Three of us had salmon which was nice. My husband had the steak which he was disappointed with. He's had much nicer else where. My son had a pizza which he said had a soggy base. The children had a pizza... More

There were 14 of us booked in. Drinks order was taken and served quickly although one of the waitresses didn't have a clue what she was doing. Waited ages for the starters to arrives (presume they were trying to get us to drink more). Tomato garlic bread was awful and cold when it arrived. My friend had the Brushetta which... More

Pleasant lunch with friends. La Roma's garlic bread is a must, the base being thin and light with a generous topping of your choice (we had half cheese/half tomato). Main choices were lasagne, tagliatelle with ham and mushrooms, and I chose my favourite of seafood risotto. Although the seafood risotto was tasty and had a generous helping of seafood, gone...
