A great place to eat if you dont want to go out in the rain !

I ate here because it was raining and I didn't want to go out in the rain. I am glad that I did because it was lovely. Staff were friendly and helpful and gave me the restaurant menu even though I was sitting in the bar. Excellent food and good selection for good price.

We had no intention of eating here especially after reading so many bad reviews. But the rain was so heavy and the wind so bad we were not going to go and find anywhere else. Only 2 other tables were occupied when we arrived. We could not fault the service and the attention we received. The food was faultless and... More

Microwaved food that was unfit for consumption ruined this meal. Service was very slow from start to finish - will not return and recommend that if you are staying at the hotel you find somewhere else to spend your money as there are plenty of excellent restaurants within walking distance.

Very good breakfast, all you can eat plenty to choose from, a real good selection, full English to continental and much more. Great service and a bargain at £9.95 with unlimited hot/cold drinks.

The restaurant, which is in the Doubletree hotel, was occupied by only a few people. I don't know why, because it wasn't that bad. The menu is very limited - only about five items for each course - but when they eventfully brought the correct order - Thai fish cakes for my first course - it was nice. As was... More

We visited today as a large group (16 +a baby) for afternoon tea to celebrate my brother and sister in laws wedding anniversary. We had various eating problems which actually they coped well with, ie gluten free. The coffee was not very tasty (I don't drink tea), there was a large variety of teas available. The quantity of food served... More

I had afternoon tea there with a friend on an Amazon Local deal yesterday. We arrived about 15 minutes before the afternoon tea service began and so they sat us outside on the terrace with a glass of Prosecco and although only one glass was advertised as being included in the price of the deal, we were topped up several... This review relates to the included breakfast when staying at the Doubletree by Hilton hotel (where this restaurant is located). The food was ok when it finally arrived. Why you have to order fried eggs is beyond me - they weren't any better than if they'd been fried en-mass and left for customers to help themselves. The hot breakfast buffet... More

Recently had afternoon tea at the City Cafe and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We ate outside in the seating area as inside was quite noisy. The food was very good and exactly what we expected. My only criticism is that they appeared to be understaffed and it took quite a while to order drinks afterwards.
